Lakers slump continues, suffer home loss against Kings

The Los Angeles Lakers are nosediving, and the ground is getting closer and closer. The Lakers are in a slump and it could not have come at a worse time. Taking on the Sacramento Kings for the third time this season, the Lakers were hoping to duplicate the result of the last time these two teams faced off. Keegan Murray, of the Sacramento Kings knocked down 7-of-8 shots from the three-point line and 9-of-13 shots from the field overall, leading the Kings with 28 points and De'Aaron Fox, who had a quiet first half finished with 21 points, five rebounds, nine assists and one steal as the Kings defeated the Lakers 112-100. Domantas Sabonis recorded a double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds and so did Trey Lyles off the bench with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sacramento blew the game wide open, outscoring the Lakers 43-25 in the third quarter, despite at one point, the Lakers had the lead 61-60. LeBron James led the Lakers with 27 points, six rebounds, nine assists, two steals and one block. Anthony Davis finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds, one assist and four blocks while Austin Reaves added 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists. The losing streak has reached five straight games and tonight's loss was the third straight home loss.

Don't look now, but the Lakers have some very big problems that need to be addressed. Just over two weeks ago this team sat in the number two spot in the Western Conference with a 12-6 record and winners of five in a row. Fast forward to tonight and after the Celtics took a 106-98 victory and handed the Lakers their sixth consecutive loss and fourth straight at home, there was a feeling in the locker room that this might've been the last game that this group plays together. December 22nd is eleven days away and that date is an important one. That's the day that players that signed or re-signed contracts this offseason will be eligible for trade. Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, Zach LaVine have been three names linked to the possibility of being a trade target for the Lakers. Anthony Davis led the Lakers in scoring tonight with a game-high 36 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, one steal and six blocks. LeBron James finished with 21 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. Austin Reaves added 17 points, two rebounds and four assists. The Celtics started the season winning their first twelve games now have won six of their last ten and sit on top of the East with a 19-4 record. Coming off winning the franchises 18th NBA Championship and first since the 2007-08 season, Jayson Tatum led them in scoring tonight with 19 points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Kristaps Porzingis also finished with 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Jrue Holiday added 13 points, three rebounds, seven assists and five steals. The Lakers will get a day to rest before taking on Brooklyn on Friday and hopes to snap this losing streak that dropped them back to .500 with a 12-12 record.

James, AD, Reaves show out, but it's Russell delivering the final blow

As the sellout crowd watched on the edge of their seats as the Lakers franticly playing hot potato with basketball as the game clock was winding down and the game tied 101-101. LeBron gave it to AD who gave it to Reaves who gave it back to AD who kicked it out to Russell who just slightly under the half court circle and didn't even take a dribble, but caught the pass and launched a deep three-point shot that went straight in the basket, and the crowd erupting as the Lakers took a three-point lead and held on despite a last second desperation shot from Mikal Bridges, snapping a six game losing streak by the final score, 104-101. LeBron James led the Lakers with 31 points, hitting 15-of-23 shots from the field, grabbed four rebounds, dished out two assists and also had three blocks. Anthony Davis went 9-of-18 from the field for a total of 25 points along with 10 rebounds, five assists and four blocks. Austin Reaves was an efficient 11-of-16 from the field, finishing with 27 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals. D'Angelo Russell had a spectacular all-around game, nearly recorded a triple-double with nine points, nine rebounds and eleven assists. For the Nets, they were led by Mikal Bridges who went off tonight and finished with 41 points, going 9-of-19 from the three-point line. Cameron Johnson finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Cam Thomas, the only other Net player in double-figures finished with 14 points. The Lakers will round out their home stand with matchup on Sunday against the Orlando Magic.

The Los Angeles Lakers wrapped up their four-game, weeklong homestand taking on the Orlando Magic. Once again, LeBron James was ruled out for the game, marking the fourth game this season he has missed (including tonight's game, the Lakers are now 1-3) so could they expand on their victory from Wednesday night. The young and athletic Magic team made things very difficult for the Lakers today especially from the three-point line. Even snapping a six-game losing streak with a win over the Brooklyn Nets, the Lakers are still a team that is barely hanging their head above water. Klay Thompson, who had spent his entire career as part of the Smash Bros with Steph Curry chose this past offseason to test the free agent market, especially when it became clear that Thompsons and the Warriors contract talks broke down with the Warriors offering Klay a year contract, which would've lined him up with Draymond Green, Currys and Kerrs contracts all expiring after next season. Thompson listened to a few offers by the teams that had the cap space to give him his asking price, but the Magic were aggressive, and Thompson ended up signing a 3 year / $96.14 million contract, with all three years guaranteed. Klay displayed why he was sure of himself as he led the Magic with 31 points (5-of-9 3FGs), grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out four assists. Former Rookie of the Year, Paolo Banchero put up 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Jalen Suggs and Cole Anthony each had 14 points apiece. Without James in the lineup, Anthony Davis took over as the main offensive player and finished with 18 points and a season-low four rebounds but did hand out three assists and put aside three blocks. Austin Reaves and Jarred Vanderbilt, who started in James' place, each scored 13 points and Christian Wood rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points.
