Despite striking out last season, Bison and Mohammed doubling down on local recruiting

It would be an understatement to say that Howard's recruiting efforts last season or rather results were embarrassing. With just one scholarship to offer, Howard struck out and miss on three centers in Georgetown's Ernesto Gooding, Old Dominion's Enrique Conley and Central Michigan's Jave Starkey.

Gooding and Conley were local products and given Schuyler Sinville's success this season, it's easy to see why Bison head coach Isaiah Mohammed was targeting centers and length this past recruiting cycle. How will he fare in this one?

Howard has extended scholarship offers to five seniors and one JUCO product with all but one of those players being from the D.C. area. The lone non-DC product is Senegal's Luke Mbyirukira who is spending his senior season at Montverde Academy in Florida. Mohammed does have a connection with Mbyirukira as the six-foot-ten big man attended a basketball camp that Mohammed participated in two seasons ago which is where the relationship first formed.

Coppin State lands JUCO forward Alton Frisby

Three-star forward Alton Frisby has committed to Coppin State over American University, Eastern Carolina and Howard.

The six-foot-six JUCO product was being heavily recruited by the Bison but chose to go out of state while remaining local with Baltimore's Coppin State. A well rounded player with good length and decent touch from outside, Frisby was one of Howard's top targets along the wing.

After striking out last cycle, Howard fans are slightly weary as almost two years into the Isaiah Mohammed experience, the team is performing better on the court but have yet to land a commitment on the recruitment trail.
