Lakers put a full team effort together to get victory against Indiana
Six players score in double figures
Recap of Pacers/Lakers game played on January 19, 2025

Midway through the tough and grueling 82 games that is the NBA season, the Lakers started out 12-6 and were looked at as a team that found its identity and everyone on the team knew their role and what was expected. Then something happened and the wheels started falling off and before you knew it the Lakers were falling and falling in the standings. During the month of December, the Lakers were 4-9 and in the midst of a six-game losing streak to begin the month and ended the month on what was the start of a four-game losing streak. Once the calendar turned to 2025 the Lakers pulled the trigger and acquired Trae Young and Kelly Olynyk (along with some other players) in a three-team deal with Toronto and Atlanta. They had to give up fan favorites Austin Reaves and Jarred Vanderbilt, but the feeling was that perhaps that group had reached their peak. In the eight games since that three-team deal the Lakers are 2-6 and on their third losing streak of four or more games this season. After a player only meeting was held this morning, the Lakers took the court for a matchup against the Indiana Pacers. The Lakers looked different from the opening tip. Their offense was more calculating, they were not trying to hurry. They were using the entire shot clock. On the defensive end, they were playing straight up, no double teams, instead of the weak side defenders rotating over, they simple zoned the weak side. These subtle changes they made allowed them to play freely and that in turn gave them opportunities that weren't forced but found in the flow of the game. Six players finished with double digit scoring and the Lakers snapped their four-game losing streak with a 100-95 win over the Pacers. LeBron James led the way with 23 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Anthony Davis had another all-around performance with 20 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four blocks. Trae Young facilitated the offense and finished with 14 points, five rebounds, eight assists and four steals. Buddy Hield, off the bench put in 14 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Gabe Vincent gave the Lakers a scoring boost in the fourth quarter and finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists. Max Christie added 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and one steal. For the Pacers, Pascal Siakam had 24 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block. Myles Turner finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Tyrese Haliburton had a double-double with 16 points and 11 assists. T.J. McConnell added 10 points, hitting 4-of-4 from the field and 2-fo-2 from the three-point line.

Lakers can't convert down the stretch, lose to Mavericks
James reaches another milestone, but upset about result
Recap of Lakers/Mavericks game played on January 22, 2025

The Los Angeles Lakers began their seven-game road trip Wednesday night taking on the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks who eliminated the Lakers from the playoffs last year have beaten them in the previous two games played this season, but this was their first look at them since the three-team trade that brought Trae Young to the Lakers. Considering how well the Lakers have played their last two games, Dallas was going to have their hands full. Dallas led by as many as 10 points during the game, but they had no way of stopping either LeBron James or Anthony Davis. Their game plan was different according to Kyrie Irving after the game. "We know it's impossible to stop LeBron and AD, they're two of the greats so let's just focus in on making sure everyone else doesn't beat us." That's what the Mavericks did. LeBron James scored a season-high 51 points, going 21-of-28 from the field with nine rebounds and six assists. Anthony Davis finished with 31 points, hitting 14-of-25 shots and grabbed 18 rebounds. The rest of the Lakers - Young (8 points), Christie (8 points), Wood (3 points), Drummond (2 points). Kyrie Irving went off for 43 points but didn't shoot the ball very well (17-of-37 FGs, 7-of-22 3Ps) while Luka Doncic and P.J. Washington each had 16 points and Daniel Gafford added 10 points and 12 rebounds. That was good enough to hold off the Lakers for a 107-103 victory.
