Lakers lose in overtime to Mavericks
Lakers Big Three combine for 101 points
Recap of Lakers/Mavericks game played on February 20, 2025

If there is one team that the Los Angeles Lakers don't want to see any more this season it's the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks have beaten the Lakers eight out of the last ten times these two teams have played. That includes tonight in overtime, 137-131. Luka Doncic knocked down a three-pointer to tie the game up and send it to overtime. Doncic led the Mavericks with 41 points, four rebounds, 13 assists, two steals and four blocks. Kyrie Irving had 26 points, two rebounds, six assists and one steal, but was 8-of-25 from the floor. Daniel Gafford finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and three blocks. LeBron James returned from missing the last two games scored 52 points, hitting 22-of-37 from the field including nine rebounds, six assists, 1 steal and two blocks. Trae Young was aggressive from the outset and finished with 35 points, three rebounds, five assists and one steal. Buddy Hield had 15 points off the bench, knocking down 3-of-3 from the three-point line. Anthony Davis added 14 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, one steal and four blocks. The last thing the Lakers needed was to start the post all-star break with a loss as they remain on the outside looking in from the play-in tournament.

Lakers season looking more bleak after loss to Phoenix
James questioning the teams toughness; it's like night and day
Recap of Suns/Lakers game played on February 23, 2025

With each game that comes and goes the Los Angeles Lakers get closer to either having an early summer or a possible playoff run, but the way they played tonight against Phoenix, it doesn't look like they would pose a threat to anyone in the West. The Lakers inconsistency when it comes to taking the lead and holding a lead is the one glaring problem this team has yet to solve and it has cost them quite a few games. The Lakers led 28-24 after the first quarter only to see the Suns tie the game quickly in the second and claim the lead and never give it up. The Lakers trailed by three at halftime and then were outscored by eight in the third, making the deficit eleven going into the fourth quarter. Bradley Beal had a great shooting night, hitting 11-of-17 shots and finishing with 25 points, three rebounds, seven assists and one block. Kevin Durant finished with 24 points, nine rebounds, one assist and three blocks. Devin Booker scored 16 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out five assists. Jusuf Nurkic dominated the key on the defensive end with six blocks. Anthony Davis led the Lakers with a game-high 33 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and 3 blocks. LeBron James finished with 26 points, six rebounds, one assist and three blocks. Trae Young once again tonight was able to get to the basket with very little resistance and finished with 25 points and 10 assists. The loss dropped the Lakers to six games below .500 again as they remain two games behind Sacramento for the 10th seed. Coming up the Lakers will host the Rockets for two straight home games to wrap up their season series.
