Lakers take game one over Houston on the road to begin second round
Lakers jump out to big lead, able to fend off Rockets run
Recap of Lakers/Rockets game played on May 2, 2025The Los Angeles Lakers began the second round of the playoffs matching up against the sixth seeded Houston Rockets who eliminated the Dallas Mavericks in six games in the first round. The Lakers jumped out early and maintained a double-digit lead as the first quarter came to an end, 34-22. Second quarter was neck and neck but the Lakers went into halftime with a fourteen-point lead, 67-53. The Rockets were able to cut into the Lakers lead in the third quarter by outscoring them by seven, making it an 84-77 game heading into the fourth quarter. The Rockets did manage to cut the Lakers lead down to two points, but Anthony Davis put the game away scoring five straight points, putting the Lakers up by nine and they would eventually go on to win game one by seven, 118-111. LeBron James led the Lakers with 33 points, knocking down 12-of-21 shots, grabbing four rebounds and dishing out nine assists. Trae Young finished the game with 27 points, four rebounds, six assists and Anthony Davis scored 20 points, along with eight rebounds, four assists and four blocks. Buddy Hield who averaged over 30 points a game in the first round, off the bench put up 17 points and 7 rebounds. For the Rockets, Jalen Green led them in scoring with 32 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal. Fred VanVleet put up 21 points and dished out eight assists. Jabari Smith Jr. had an all-around performance with 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks. Alperen Sengun in 39 minutes was 0-for-7 from the field including 0-for-3 from the three-point line, had zero points, four rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block.

Lakers take down Rockets, go up 2-0 headed back to Los Angeles
Hield and James lead Lakers to victory
Recap of Lakers/Rockets game played on May 4, 2025The Los Angeles Lakers took a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series against the Houston Rockets after a 120-113 victory. Buddy Hield led the Lakers with a game-high 36 points, along with four rebounds, one assist and two steals. Hield hit 10-of-24 from the three-point line and was 4-of-6 from the free throw line. LeBron James scored 29 points, shooting 13-of-21 from the field and had six rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Trae Young, fouled out, but finished with 21 points, four rebounds and 11 assists. Anthony Davis rounded out the Lakers in double figures with 19 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, one steal and 3 blocks. Fred VanVleet led the Rockets in scoring with 35 points, hitting 11-of-23 from the field, 5-of-7 from the three-point line and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. Jalen Green scored 24 points and dished out eight assists. Alperen Sengun who was scoreless in game one finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Jabari Smith recorded a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. The Lakers can close out the series this weekend with two home victories or the Rockets can pull off the upset and get the series back to Houston for a game five.
