Not that I'm seeing as I browse through all the positions. I barely know anyone playing in the Major Leagues these days, other than a few kids like J.P. Crawford and Travis d'Arnaud who went to the same high school as I did. J.P.'s dad was actually one of my assistant basketball coaches for the boys program and his sister was a hell of a volleyball and softball player.

Diamondbacks Hire Dave Roberts

The Arizona Diamondbacks have announced they have come to a contract agreement with Dave Roberts to become their next manager. Sources have said that it is a three-year contract worth $24 million. Arizona wanted to overhaul the coaching staff and put their focus on Roberts, who led the Los Angeles Dodgers to three World Series championships and five World Series appearances. Roberts will manage an Arizona team that features second baseman Ketel Marte, who was the National League MVP in 2026 along with right fielder and former Rookie of the Year, Corbin Carroll and All-Star shortstop, Geraldo Perdomo and let's not forget about catcher, Gabriel Moreno who won the National League Batting Title last year. Now that the Diamondbacks have their man it will be interesting to see how they fill out this roster going forward.

2028 Arizona Diamondbacks Offseason Review

The Diamondbacks got their man to lead them back to the World Series

When the Los Angeles Dodgers and Dave Roberts mutually agreed to part ways in the offseason, the D-Backs were thinking about re-hauling their coaching staff as many were on expiring contracts. They chose not to re-new any of those coaches and put their focus on the one guy who has led one team to multiple World Series championships over the last decade. The D-Backs announced the first week of free agency that they had come to a contract agreement with Dave Roberts to become the new manager of the team and get this team over the hump and back to the Fall Classic. Roberts signed a three-year/$24 million contract. Joining him as the new Hitting Coach is Chris Gil, the new Pitching Coach, John Akar and the new Third Base Coach, Freddie Montoya

D-Backs went out shopping for some heavy hitters

The two biggest offseason pick ups for the D-Backs were outfielders Brandon Marsh and Steven Kwan. Steven Kwan, signed a six-year/$169.6 million contract after spending six seasons with the Cleveland Guardians. Kwan takes over in left field, which had been occupied by Lourdes Gurriel Jr., but the D-Backs released Gurriel Jr. back in February. The D-Backs also signed free agent outfielder, Brandon Marsh to a four-year/$78.6 million contract. Marsh, who began his career with the Angels had spent the past seasons as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. Marsh and Kwan combined last season to hit 50 homeruns between them and now that hitting power teams up with Kelel Marte (72 homeruns in the last two seasons), Corbin Carroll (59 homeruns) and Pavin Smith (58 homeruns).

A bounce back year for Perdomo

Last year during spring training, D-Backs starting shortstop Geraldo Perdomo suffered a knee injury that kept him out of action until July. After a career making season in 2026 where he hit a career high 22 homeruns, made the All-Star team and won the National League Batting Title, Perdomo was limited to 95 games played, but was very productive, hitting 12 homeruns and having 108 hits in 404 at bats. Perdomo has spent his entire career with the D-Backs and is under contract for two more years.

On opening day this year the D-Backs will be sending out a lineup as follows: Geraldo Perdomo, Ketel Marte, Corbin Carroll, Pavin Smith, Steven Kwan, Gabriel Moreno, Brandon Marsh, Nolan Arenado and Trevor Larnach.

I think I signed Arenado to a four year extension before last season so this would be year 2 ... he had sort of the same 2026 and 2027 season where he was hitting between .300 and .315, but both years he had a two or three week period where he knocked out about 5-6 six homeruns during that period and he had hit 5-6 all the way up to that for the season, but he's played between 130-135 games each season. I've had Lawler and Tawa shoulder some of the load and then there was one month where Arenado was out due to a knee injury.
