We've been one of the hardest-hitting baseball teams in the league all year, so we definitely take the cake here. We're red-hot. That's about it for the advantages. This is a dynasty-esque team we're facing. Shohei and Mookie is going to be insane. Freddie Freeman is post-season baseball.

State of the Blue Jay: The Cinderella Story - Can they pull it off?

The Toronto Blue Jays loaded up during the trade deadline, adding some key firepower down their lineup and some key bullpen arms to shore up a severe weakness in pitching depth. And so far, it has paid off. The playoff push was successful, the arms held up when they needed to, and the superstars played their role and did their job when they needed to. The Toronto Blue Jays have made it to the dance.

They will be playing in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

How did they get here
The Blue Jays managed to hang in a tough AL East by fixing their biggest redundancy - beating up against the bad teams and not being able to shake it against the good teams. They stretched their wings down the last part of the baseball season by winning key series against the floundering Boston Red Sox and edging past the New York Yankees. Getting the Houston Astros in the three-game Wild Card series was key and they almost relapsed into their choking ways.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr delivered one of the most heroic performances in baseball history to edge the Astros in the decisive Game 3 and brought the Blue Jays to a dance with the defending World Series champions, the Texas Rangers.

"We knew we had to play some of the best baseball we played all year against a team like that," said catcher Danny Jansen, amid a career year. "No one thought that we could manage to win a series like that. Coming through unexpected with low expectations. We had them right where we wanted them."

The Blue Jays dug deep and got key performances from depth pieces like Kevin Kiermaier - in the midst of what many expect to be his final season in the league - and George Springer. The Blue Jays managed to slide past the Rangers in four games and moved on to the ALCS.

Toronto was expecting an ALCS matchup against their rivals, the New York Yankees, and presumptive AL MVP Aaron Judge, but the team was upset by another rival that the Blue Jays fared much better against - the Tampa Bay Rays.

"We knew not to take them too lightly," said newly acquired Blue Jays' second baseman Brandon Drury. "Yeah, it was nice to not have to deal with the juggernaut that is the Yankees. But The Rays took them down for a reason and we knew we were going to have our hands full regardless of what team we had to play against."

Again, thanks to a dominant pitching performance from both aces Kevin Gausman and Alek Manoah and Vladdy coming back to life as he continues his approach to post-season immortality, the Blue Jays again managed to knock their opponent off in five games.

Now, here they are.

What can they do now?
Last off-season, rumors were swirling that the Blue Jays had added superstar, two-way player Shohei Ohtani after he reached free agency. It almost felt like a certainty towards the end. And then the Instagram post came from the megastar himself.

The Los Angeles Dodgers. 10 years for $700 million.

The Dodgers would later land Japanese superstar Yoshinobu Yamamoto to the rotation. And with a team that already featured the likes of Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, it was like a foregone conclusion that they would be here.

The Dodgers were given everything they could handle with another superstar-laden team in the Philadelphia Phillies and they still managed to stop them in 6 games.

The Blue Jays will have to play mistake-free baseball to even have a chance to take down this juggernaut of a team. Vladimir Guerrero Jr and Bo Bichette will have to have the series of their lives. The pitching rotation will have to be a strength, not a weakness.
