It's one of many reasons, I really hate the Premier League: they always go for 'names', the marketing, the exposure. When sometimes the best option is a lesser known club man, a promising youth player, someone that isn't already in the spotlight.

You definitely have a point, but I'm not sure I agree that this always happens in the Prem. United tried with Solskjær and Carrick, Arsenal with Arteta and Chelsea with Lampard, Maresca and now Rosenior. Not what I would consider big names, at least in the role as managers. I do love it, when they take more sensible approaches though. Liverpool signing Watari Endo, for instance. Now, I'm obviously not a Liverpool-fan, but that was a signing, I really liked by them. And for a while, I believe he did quite well.

Michael Carrick COULD be a good choice for a permanent deal. However, results have been better than performances, except his opening game vs Man City, who were lucky not to lose by a bigger margin. But other games have seen dire performances, and that is a worry that makes me question, whether he can be a good choice in the long run. Arne Slot also won the first five Premier League-games this season despite poor performances. It was never going to last...
