Ingolstadt Announce 2037-38 Squad After Summer Transfer Window Closes


The 22-man squad.

After conquering all before them in 2036-37 with a historic quintuple, FC Ingolstadt 04, under the visionary leadership of manager Sabrina Wittmann, are wasting no time rewriting the next chapter of their dynasty. A new season brings a bold tactical shift: a classic 4-4-2, inspired by the pressing intensity of Arrigo Sacchi and the wide dominance of Sir Alex Ferguson—but modernized with inverted wingers and aggressive high pressing to dominate in the final third.

So far, the switch is bearing immediate fruit. Die Schanzer kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 win over Bayern in the DFL-Supercup, followed by a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup. The Bundesliga started in even more explosive fashion: a 5-1 away win at Wolfsburg and an astonishing 9-0 thrashing of Augsburg in the derby at home.

Wittmann’s summer transfer strategy focused on refining the squad for this new structure—prioritizing tactical fit and homegrown depth.

Ben Schneider, a 19-year-old left back and former academy product, was signed from AZ Alkmaar for €6M after helping the Dutch club to the Eredivisie title. He steps directly into the starting XI. Another familiar face returned in Lian Zimmermann, rejoining from Cardiff for €4M to provide cover on the left flank behind Vincent Weber.

Several academy graduates moved on to find first-team football elsewhere. Winger Daniel Müller joined Montpellier for €5M, center-back Marvin Walter moved to Ajax for €4M, and midfielder Lian Mayer was sold to Hull City for €7.4M. The biggest departure was 6’3” left-footed center-back Benjamin Lorenz, whose loan to Stade Rennais became permanent after the Ligue 1 side triggered his €40M buy option.

With Wittmann at the helm and the team fully bought into the new philosophy, Ingolstadt look as hungry and dangerous as ever. The trophies may be in the cabinet, but the ambition is far from satisfied.
