January 2026: Mid-Season Premier League Update

Image
United sit top of the table after 19 games with Hojlund and Garnacho well positioned for individual glory as well.

As the Premier League reaches the halfway mark, Manchester United sit top of the table, four points clear and looking every bit like a side transformed under Rúben Amorim’s aggressive 3-4-2-1 identity. With 14 wins, 4 draws and just one defeat, United have combined relentless attacking output with discipline at the back, boasting a league-best +45 goal difference.

United’s attack has been nothing short of electric:

Rasmus Højlund and Viktor Gyökeres are level atop the Golden Boot race on 17 goals, while marquee summer signing Takefusa Kubo has erupted with 16 goals in 18 matches, one of Europe’s breakout performers.

On the creative side, Alejandro Garnacho leads the Premier League with 13 assists, thriving in his hybrid wingback/creator role, while Antony sits second with 8—a surprising renaissance few predicted six months ago.

Defensively, new goalkeeper Lucas Perri has been outstanding, leading the league with 8 clean sheets, and anchoring a back line that has conceded only 18 goals, a remarkable improvement on United’s turbulent recent years.

Arsenal remain the closest challengers, with Liverpool and Aston Villa not far behind, but at the midpoint of the 2025–26 season, Manchester United look like legitimate title favourites—balanced, ruthless, and finally playing with a clear identity and confidence.

The league is yours now, I can see you pulling away in the second half and have the league won by April. Looks like you have the players for the formation down now.

Yeah we're on a roll. I think the key thing will not be losing the 6-pointer with Arsenal in the 2nd half of the season, but barring that I think we've got this figured out atm.

A hat trick and then doing Son’s celebration against his old team. That’s cold.

:pgdead: had to be done. I got a serious vendetta against spurs after how they did me in the EL final last year.

United Loan Marcus Knowles to SC Braga for the Rest of the Season

Knowles is headed to Portugal for the remainder of the year.

Marcus Knowles was promoted to the first team in March of last year. The 17 year old, 6'2 English center back has loads of talent but isn't quite ready for significant first team minutes this year. He has only featured in 4 games all season (all in the Europa League), so Amorim has leveraged his connections at SC Braga to get the player a loan move for more playing time. This actually leaves United quite thin at left center-back, but Luke Shaw has been a reliable fixture there all year. Shaw is 30 and has just 17 months remaining on his contract at the club, and Knowles is seen as his long term successor for the LCB position.
