Florence, Italy - Matteo Moretti does not have to be told how close he came to losing his job on Thursday night, but if he needed a reminder, the morning papers will tell the story. Fiorentina were an extra time away from being eliminated in Europe, and as dramatic as it might seem, sources say a defeat would have ended Moretti's time in Florence less than a month after his arrival.

"Getting back to Europe is a goal the club has set. I am aware of this, and I have agreed to this. I am not naive; my contract is until June, and then discussions will be held after that." Moretti told the press, trying to downplay the drama. "The club has been very open with me, and I know this is the task. I know what a loss in Europe means as well as struggles in Serie A."

With the future draw already set, we can confirm that Viola will be playing Mainz 05 from Germany in the next round. The first leg will be played on March 12.

Kean's emergence
One player that is loving life under the new manager is Moise Kean. The 25-year old Italian has found a scoring streak under Moretti and now has 10 goals in Serie A, moving to third in the scoring table.

Kean is behind Lautaro Martinez (14) and Marcus Thuram (11) in the scoring race for the league's Gold Boot away, an away that seemed impossible only two weeks ago.
