January Transfer Window Recap
The January window was headlined by Trent Alexander-Arnold's £83.3M switch to Real Madrid.
Manchester United conducted limited business in the January transfer window, with their only deal being the loan of youngster, Marcus Knowles, to SC Braga for the remainder of the season. 10 points clear in the Premier League going into January, the club hierarchy believe they have the tools to capture the title this year and did not want to upset team chemistry or unity in the winter window.
While United did not strengthen, some of their rivals in the Premier League did. Manchester City made the most expensive transfer ofr the January window with a £101.1M deal for Athletic Bilbao's Oihan Sancet to reinforce and likely replace Kevin de Bruyne in attacking midfield. City have been floundering this year in the mid-table after winning the league last season and will look to reverse their fortunes and push for European qualification. Liverpool conversely were actually weakened in January, as right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold moved to Real Madrid for £83.3M. They made a swift move to replace the player with Spurs' Pedro Porro, but it is definitely a downgrade in the short and long term. United's chief rival for the title, Arsenal, fortunately for the Red Devils did not make a serious effort to strengthen, with their only incoming transfer in January being AC Milan's Fikayo Tomori.
