Ingolstadt Agree to Sell Gift Orban to Bayern for €43M

The 25 year old Nigerian striker will join Bayern when the window opens January 1st, 2028.

Gift Orban has scored 8 goals in just 10 games this season. An excellent return, but he has been somewhat injury prone, affording more opportunity for backup Ethan Wheatley to start at striker, and he has produced a similar return with 8 goals of his own. Bayern needed coverage at striker for a declining and aging Harry Kane and decided to make a move for Orban, and Ingolstadt were happy to oblige, seeing Wheatley as a more than suitable option in the position with youngster Jonathan Stein able to serve as a serviceable backup. Ingolstadt have had their eye on Maximilian Beier of Monaco for quite some time, who recently put four goals past them in the Champions League, but it remains to be seen if they'll move for him in January or wait until the summer.

Ingolstadt Sell Laurin Ulrich and Ethan Mbappe for Combined €26M

Ulrich at 22 has been superb for Ingolstadt off the bench, but wanted more game time.

Laurin Ulrich has been an incredible spark plug off the bench for Ingolstadt, scoring 5 goals and registering a team high 8 assists in just 19 games this season. However, with his stellar performances, he has also demanded more playing time and become increasingly frustrated with his bench role. With Ingolstadt's best player and the reigning Bundesliga Player of the Season, Marlon Engel, occupying the starting #10 spot, there was imply no pathway for Ulrich to the starting XI. The club agreed to sell the player to VfL Wolfsburg for €21M and expect academy prospect Marvin Jansen to be called up and take his place. Concurrently, the club agreed to sell Ethan Mbappe to Coventry for a €4.5M fee. Mbappe has had a few decent cameos but hasn't really fit into any clear role within the team setup.

Ingolstadt Hire Ralf Rangnick as Director of Football

Rangnick will be tasked with working with Wittmann to instill a clear philosophy at the club.

Ingolstadt have performed well this season but been somewhat inconsistent due to constant changes in formation and tactics that have required frequent chopping and changing of players and systems. The club has hired Ralf Rangnick to help solve that problem. Rangnick is well renowned for his time with Red Bull, instilling a clear gegenpressing style of play at all levels of the club. He favors the 4-2-2-2 system that Wittmann used while in the lower divisions of German football, and will work with her to put it in place at the top level now as well. Rangnick stated that the club will focus on buying and developing young, athletic, high-energy players who can slot seamlessly into the system. The 4-2-2-2 also simplifies the number of player profiles the club needs to scout for as there are effectively five roles: poaching strikers, advanced playmaking CAMs, holding high-energy defensive midfielders, swashbuckling center-backs and attack minded wingbacks.
