Yeah that's the problem with playing the possession dominant way. You end up having the ball a lot but not necessarily creating a TON of chances. So if you miss them (which I did), you can be really vulnerable to one counter attack ruining the game.

It says the CPU had a bunch of shots but they basically scored from the 3 good counters they had.

December 1st, 2024 - LaLiga Update

Image
Valladolid remain in a Champions League place despite the recent beatdown at the hands of Atlético de Madrid.

Real Valladolid’s fairy-tale start to life under Cesc Fàbregas hit its first major bump this past month with a bruising 7-3 defeat to Atlético Madrid. For a side that had been praised for its courage and creativity in possession, the scoreline was a stark reminder of LaLiga’s unforgiving nature.

Despite the setback, Valladolid remain 4th in the table with 29 points, only one behind Atlético, and their attacking play has made them one of the most entertaining sides in Spain. They’ve scored 37 goals in 15 matches—second only to Atlético’s 38.

The star of the campaign so far has been academy product Juan Latasa, who sits second in the Golden Boot race with 11 goals in 14 matches, outscoring the likes of Lewandowski and Vini Jr. Meanwhile, Raúl Moro leads the league in assists (8), underlining the impact of Valladolid’s young Spanish core.

After the Atlético drubbing, many wondered if Fàbregas would dial back his adventurous tactics. Instead, he doubled down:

“I will not abandon this philosophy because of one bad night,” Fàbregas told reporters. “We want to build something lasting here. If it means taking the occasional heavy defeat, then so be it. This team will grow by playing brave football.”

The supporters have largely embraced the message, seeing their team not only compete but also entertain. Valladolid are firmly in the European hunt, and with Madrid and Barça still ahead, their battle is as much about long-term evolution as it is immediate results.

For now, the dream of bringing a true tiki-taka revolution to Castile and León remains alive—setbacks and all.

Valladolid Agree to Let Iván Sanchez Join Marseille in January

Iván Sanchez will join Marseille for €3.75M when the winter transfer window opens.

Valladolid's starting right-winger, Iván Sanchez, has agreed a €3.75M move to Olympique de Marseille, set to be finalized when the transfer window opens again on January 1st, 2025. Despite being one of the club's best attackers, at 32-years-old he is not considered a good fit for Fabregas' long-term project. Additionally, Valladolid has a pair of 17-year-old right-wingers in the academy chomping at the bit to claim a spot in the main squad. Englishman, Nathan Wells is considered a prodigy, standing 5'10 and possessing incredible agility, pace and ball control, while Spaniard Yago Vidal is a slightly lower rated talent, but a native to the Valladolid area and an absolutely rapid forward. Valladolid plan to promote one or both of these players in January, where they will become understudy and eventual replacement for the 28-year-old Brazilian, Kenedy, who is currently Sanchez's backup.
