Hojlund's £200M Move to West Ham Headlines Mass Exodus of Non-Academy Talent

Rasmus Hojlund leaves the club for a British sale record of £199.8M.
Manchester United’s commitment to an academy-only model has triggered a dramatic clear-out of established stars, marking one of the most radical squad overhauls in modern football. Headlining the exodus is Rasmus Højlund, sold to West Ham for a staggering £200m. The striker was keen to remain in England, but United refused to strengthen a direct title rival, making the Hammers the acceptable destination.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa emerged as major beneficiaries. Goalkeeper Lucas Perri joined for £83m, while captain Bremer followed for £116m, instantly transforming Villa’s defensive spine. Adam Wharton moved to Newcastle for £52m, Reo Hatate departed for Union Berlin in a £15m deal, and Evan Ferguson joined Arsenal for £30m. Palace were also active, securing Tyler Dibling for £25m and later adding Rodrigo Mora for £42m.
Further departures saw Ezri Konsa sold to Leeds for £38m, Takefusa Kubo leave for Nottingham Forest in a £156m blockbuster, and Diogo Dalot head to Spurs for £84m. Danilo joined Arsenal for £21m, while Jarrad Branthwaite completed a £70m move to Barcelona.
In total, United have sacrificed elite talent for principle, fully committing to a youth-led identity rooted in the club’s past and its future.
