Founded in 1992, CF Montréal, originally known as the Montreal Impact, has long been a symbol of soccer pride in Quebec and Canada. The club first competed in the American Professional Soccer League (APSL), quickly establishing itself as a competitive force. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the Impact became a powerhouse in the lower divisions of North American soccer, particularly in the USL First Division, where they won several championships, including a league title in 2004.

In 2012, the Montreal Impact made the leap to Major League Soccer (MLS), becoming the league's third Canadian franchise after Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Their arrival brought top-tier soccer to Quebec and ignited a passionate rivalry with Toronto FC, known as the Canadian Classique. The club made an immediate impact (no pun intended), making the MLS Cup Playoffs in just their third season and capturing the Canadian Championship multiple times, cementing their status as one of Canada's elite clubs.

Perhaps the club’s most iconic moment came in 2015, when they reached the CONCACAF Champions League final, becoming the second Canadian club to do so. Although they fell short against Mexican powerhouse Club América, the run remains a historic highlight.

In 2021, the club underwent a major rebranding, adopting the name Club de Foot Montréal (CF Montréal), a move meant to better reflect the city's French culture and the club's vision for the future. Though met with mixed reactions, CF Montréal has continued to develop a strong identity on and off the field.

Today, CF Montréal prides itself on developing local talent, fostering a community-first ethos, and maintaining its status as one of Canada’s most important football institutions.
