USF Whips West Virginia in 2029 Allstate Sugar Bowl
If this is how the Malcolm Francois Sr. era ends at USF, it ended in dominating fashion.

The Bulls led from wire to wire, nearly doubling the West Virginia Mountaineers in yardage, quadrupling in points and completely neutered their Heisman winning quarterback en route to a 42-9 victory in New Orleans.

Antonio Whitehead was nearly perfect with his only missed throw of the night being a second half interception that West Virginia wasn't able to do much with. Outside of that throw, Whitehead completed all of his other seventeen passes, five of which resulted in touchdown including a 87-yard touchdown to Corey Montgomery in the fourth quarter to put the nail in the game and gave Montgomery the school record for most touchdowns in a season.

Francois Sr. was evasive when asked if this was his last game as head coach of the Bulls, simply stating and restating that he is currently employed the University of South Florida. Montgomery and Whitehead, both third year player, were also non-committal on if they'll return for a senior and redshirt junior season respectively.

Montgomery has an outside shot of breaking some NCAA records next season if he returns as he needs 107 receptions to break the receptions career record, 1386 yards for the yardage record and and 25 for the touchdown record. While those are gaudy numbers, he finished this season with 87 receptions for 1345 yards and seventeen touchdowns despite quarterback Antonio Whitehead missing several games due to injury.

English to return in 2030 as Miami head coach

Miami head coach Ron English will retain that title for at least one more season according to an ESPN report.

English, who met with the school's officials twice following the season, was on the hot seat following another disappointing season in Coral Gables. According to the ESPN report, the school's brass were not willing to pay both English's buyout and likely the "high price tag" of its replacement. Miami had flirted with USF head coach Malcolm Francois Sr. as reported by both The Tampa Bay Chronicles and ESPN and there was genuine interest but the first domino that needed to fall -- English's exit -- never fell.

Texas A&M and its deep pockets are expected to make a run at Francois as well as defensive coordinator Pat Fitzgerald who has been linked to openings at Auburn and South Carolina.

Fitzgerald named next head coach at SMU

When you lead the nation's top scoring defense to another season as the nation's top scoring defense while switching defensive schemes completely, you are rewarded.

USF defensive coordinator Pat Fitzgerald is now a former DC, getting another crack as a head coach at SMU where he will take over the 9-4 Mustangs from Hugh Freeze who accepted the head coaching job at Texas A&M.

Fitzgerald spent just one season at USF, taking over from current Cal head coach Justin Wilcox who left USF with the nation's top scoring defense. Fitzgerald repeated that feat in 2029 despite major losses to the secondary, a new look at linebacker and switching from a 3-4 to a 4-3 scheme which saw defensive end B.J. Patton rewrite the record books.

USF will once again be on the prowl to name its third defensive coordinator in as many years and its fourth in six years. A top name to watch is recently fired Mississippi State head coach Pete Rekstis who is a former USF defensive coordinator back as well as former South Carolina head coach Mark Stoops. Both are veterans with head coaching experience and are comfortable recruiting in South Florida.
