Ruthless Aggression | A WWE 2K Universe

May 2003 | PPV | Raleigh, NC

Mysterio entered decked out in a new all-black outfit and a new heelish persona. He'd assaulted Bryan the last several weeks with cheap shot after cheap shot and now was looking to take advantage of the wear and tear to win the Cruiserweight Championship. Bryan was the one who would take control early however, matching Rey's more cerebral assault with his typical athletic and technical fighting style. Bryan eventually went for a powerbomb on Mysterio, but Rey countered it and used his legs to whip the champ into the ropes. Rey then hit Bryan with the 6-1-9 and climbed the top rope, but his West Coast Pop attempt was dodged by Bryan who then regained control of the matchup. Both men then exchanged unsuccessful flips and pin attempts before Mysterio was able to whip Bryan into the ropes and catch him with another 6-1-9. The impact from that kick was enough to bust Bryan open, and he wouldn't dodge the West Coast Pop the second time around as Mysterio covered him to win the championship.

American Alpha came out to the ring flanked by their new ally, Donny Zenk. They didn't need the numbers to be competitive in the match though. Haas and Benjamin's olympic wrestling style was causing D-Generation X all kinds of problems. First and foremost being that Triple H, who started the match, was never allowed to tag in his partner HBK. While HHH put up a strong fight, even hitting a Pedigree on Charlie Haas (however the pin was broken up by Benjamin), eventually the two on one assault started to weigh on him. The American Alpha pair caught HHH with a Grand Amplitude, and THEN the numbers finally came into play. HBK tried to enter the ring to break up the pinfall, but Zenk grabbed his legs out of the referee's field of view allowing American Alpha to steal the win and become the WWE Tag Team Championsh. After the match, American Alpha vacated the ring, leaving HHH and HBK. Triple H was pissed off that Michaels hadn't helped him, and despite Michaels' please, HHH finally lost it and Pedigree his partner and walked out. Looks like D-X's short-lived reunion is now over.

Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar took each other on for the vacant WWE Championship. The two had been involved in a vicious feud that last several weeks and that showed as the match started off equally as vicious, with both fighters abandoning their amateur wrestling backgrounds and turning this into an all-out street fight. Eventually the referee was caught in the crossfire though, and just seconds later, American Alpha and Donny Zenk came running out from the stage. Haas and Benjamin teamed up with Angle to Triple Powerbomb Lesnar in the middle of the ring. While the referee didn't see this so he couldn't call the DQ, he did suspect that the new tag champs were involved in some foul play and tossed both of them from ringside. Kurt went for the pin but to his bewilderment, Lesnar kicked out at two and he started ranting and talking to himself in disbelief. That backfired, because when he regrouped, Lesnar had as well and hoisted Angle up into an F-5. He went for the pin but Donny Zenk pulled the referee out of the ring. That got him tossed, but Lesnar was livid and went after him. It was now Lesnar's turn to pay for being distracted, because when he returned to the ring, Angle had an Angle Slam ready for him that put him down for the count and allowed Kurt to become the new WWE Champion. It looks like we have a new faction in American Alpha, and Donny Zenk's antics have just crowned the rest of his stable-mates champions in consecutive matches.

Lashley came out of the gates like a house on fire, hitting Jericho with several shoulder blocks, leaving the champion badly hurt just seconds into the match. Y2J tried to escape to get a bit of a breather, but Lashley wouldn't let him and was all over him. Lashley picked Jericho up and hit him with the Dominator Suplex. Then he crouched in wait in the corner on the opposite side of the ring. When Jericho got to his feet, Lashley hit him with a devastating Spear. 1, 2, 3... easy as that, Bobby Lashley is your new Intercontinental Champion, winning in dominant fashion.

During Goldberg's entrance pyro, Edge took advantage of the low visibility to smack him in the back with a kendo stick. He the hit Goldberg repeatedly with the bamboo weapon, yelling, "This is exactly what I wanted, Bill!" at him over and over again. it seemed Edge had deliberately pissed off Vince McMahon on RAW earlier this week to get a match where he was free to use weapons against Goldberg. Edge continued to smack Goldberg with the stick, herding him towards the ring. He then hit a Spear on the hobbled Goldberg, but he managed to kick out of the ensuing cover at two. Edge went for a second Spear, hoping to end the match quickly, but Goldberg jumped over it. When Edge turned around, Goldberg hit him with the Jackhammer, but before he could go for the pin, Edge rolled out of the ring to prevent himself from losing the match. Goldberg went out after him and when he tried to pick Edge up and haul him back in. the Rated-R superstar poked him in the eye. With Goldberg blinded, Edge seized the opening, hitting Goldberg with an Edgecution and the Spear once more to retain his championship.

The newcomer from Japan looked focused and ready for his first pay-per-view match with the WWE, and it was a big one as he would have a chance to win the United States Championship. Nakamura's unorthodox mix of MMA and flamboyant wrestling styles seemed to throw off the champion, Cena, as he'd never really faced anyone who fought in such a way before. While Cena was able to hit his usual moves on Nakamura and damage him, it seemed every time Shinsuke would come up with some kind of kick or strike out of nowhere that flustered and frustrated the champion. Cena knew he had to change his approach and tripped up his challenger before locking him in the STFU. But Nakamura was able to crawl his way to the ropes before submitting. Cena kept applying the pressure though and powerslammed Nakamura before poising himself to hit the F-U. He picked Nakamura up onto his shoulders, but Shinsuke just slid off and behind the champion before hitting him with a reverse Exploder Suplex. A dazed Cena struggled to get to his feet, but only got up on one knee before being plastered with a Kinshasa knee strike straight to the temple that knocked him out cold. Nakamura covered a motionless Cena as the referee counted to three and ended Cena's 6-month championship reign just like that.

Roster Shake-Up Following Money in the Bank

WWE has also made a few cuts with recent signings The Miz and Samoa Joe being dropped from the roster for poor performances, and Dolph Ziggler being placed on medical release after the assault he was victim of courtesy of the newly formed Nation stable.
Shane McMahon wants full control over creative and production at Smackdown! and has made major moves to get it from his father, Vince. Those moves were primarily roster related. First of all, in exchange for the power, Shane has given Triple H, Randy Orton and Kane to RAW, breaking up the D-Generation X and Brothers of Destruction tag teams. Because her husband was moved to RAW, Stephanie McMahon has decided to join him on that show as well as his manager. Additionally, RAW and Smackdown! have made a few trades. Former Intercontinental Champion, Chris Jericho, has been traded to RAW for former United States Champion, John Cena, in a blockbuster move following the losses of both superstars at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view. The Colons tag team has also been swapped from Smackdown! to RAW in exchange for the tag team of Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins.
Last but not least, both shows had the funds to make a marquee signing in their singles divisions to replace the retired Stone Cold and The Rock, and their tag divisions to replace the broken up D-X and Brothers of Destruction tag teams. RAW has signed Rob Van Dam and a legendary tag team in The Road Warriors. Smackdown! has acquired Chris Benoit and the Hooliganz, a cruiserweight tag team featuring the dynamic stars Paul London and Brian Kendrick.
