June 2003 | Week 1 | Cohasset, MA
Before the show started, Vince McMahon came out to make a major announcement, "We've had a lot of changes to RAW as you know over the past few days. Well, I'd like to make one more. With Austin gone, I don't want the Attitude Era to totally die, so to keep its spirit alive, the Hardcore Championship will be defended every single night on both RAW and Smackdown!. I want it changing hands and I want superstars fighting and clawing to both keep it and gain it. And with that said, I'd like to introduce the man Voodoo will be defending the championship against tonight... our newest acquisition, one half of the Brothers of Destruction, Kane!"
Voodoo came out ultra-aggressive to start the match and never even resorted to using weapons. He simply just... beat down Kane. The Big Red Machine never really got much offense in as Voodoo made short work of him with a two-handed chokeslam and powerful Voodoo Bomb to retain the belt. During Voodoo's post-match celebration, Kane tried to attack him from behind but Voodoo dodged and then sprayed some kind of smoke substance in the eyes of Kane, forcing him to retreat from the ring. Who the hell can stop Voodoo's unbeaten run with the belt?
Beth Phoenix took on Lita in non-title action, while Mickie James, who'd been a bit of a thorn in the backside of Phoenix recently, sat ringside to spectate. Mid-way through the match, Beth and Lita got into an exchange of punches, but it was the stronger Phoenix who would eventually win it and clothesline Lita out of the ring. She went out after Lita, but got distracted when Mickie James said a few choice words to her. With Beth's back turned, Lita tried to take advantage, but Phoenix was ready for her and dodged the attack, causing Lita to run straight into Mickie James instead. Beth laughed mockingly, then threw Lita back into the ring and hit the Glam Slam on her to pick up the victory.
Edge got in the ring to address the WWE Universe, extremely smug about his victory over Goldberg saying, "Look if I can beat Goldberg folks, I can beat anyone on this roster. In fact, I'm so confident that I can do exactly that, I'll let ANYONE from backstage come down here right now and make a case for a title match with me at the next pay-per-view, Bad Blood!" There was silence for a few moments then "I Hear Voices" started to play and RAW's newest signing, Randy Orton came down to the ring to a burst of cheers from the crowd. Orton waited for the crowd to die down then spoke, "I appreciate the warm reception. So Edge, you think you can beat ANYONE on this roster huh? Well why don't we find out if you beat me, and you put that (pointing to the World Heavyweight Championship) on the line?" Edge laughed and then pointed at Orton, jabbing him in the chest with his finger, "You've got no chance, kid, get to the back of the---." RKO! Orton didn't even let the champ finish his sentence, hitting him with a devastating RKO that left him motionless in the middle of the ring. The Viper glared at his prey and then picked up the belt and held it high above his head.
Main Event: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Chris Jericho | One on One Normal Match
Another newcomer to RAW was set for singles action, with the former Intercontinental Champion, Chris Jericho, taking on the newly crowned United States Champion, Shinsuke Nakamura. Jericho was wary of Nakamura's unorthodox style and looked to put him away early, going at him very aggressively from the opening bell. But things started to fall apart for Y2J when he went for the Walls of Jericho. He simply hadn't done enough damage to Nakamura to lock in the hold properly and Shinsuke twisted his way out of it, whipping Jericho backwards into the ropes in the process. When Jericho rebounded back, Nakamura caught him and hit him with an Exploder Suplex and much like he had done the previous night against Cena, followed that with the Kinshasa to knock out Y2J and get the win. Nakamura's post-match celebrations were cut short, however, when The Nation appeared on the stage. They did not approach the ring, but all three members, particularly the leader, Mansa stared a hole into Nakamura and raised their fists in unison. A cautious Nakamura stayed in the ring, unsure of what to make of the display.
