July 2003 | Week 2 | Oklahoma City, OK

Show Opener Promo: Edge
"Man it feels gooooood to still have my title!" Edge bellowed amidst jeers from the Oklahoma crowd. He started to continue is speech but then the sound of glass shattering came from the speakers and Austin 3:16 made his return to the WWE. Austin spoke, "You know Edge, I saw my buddy Rock over there on Smackdown! earning him a shot at their title, and figured, well damn, why not make a run at the World Heavyweight title my damn self?" Edge replied, "Austin, you're old news, you've done nothing to earn a shot, and you won't be getting one any time so---" STUNNER. Austin took out the champ with a massive stunner and threw up the double middle fingers to him. Not sure that's going to result in a title shot, but it's one hell of a statement from the Texas Rattlesnake in his return to the company.

Match #1: Mickie James vs. Lita | One on One Normal Match
Lita didn't have much time to recover from her boyfriend (they patched things up) getting stunnered, as she had a match coming up next against the Women's Champion, Mickie James. Without Edge to help her, Lita struggled in this matchup. At one point she did look like turning it around when she went for the Twist of Fate, but Mickie caught her initial kick and then reversed it into a Mick Kick of her own to pick up the win. After the match, Ivory, who hasn't been seen on TV in weeks, came out and stood ominously on the age and stared down Mickie James.

Match #2: Rob Van Dam vs. Chris Jericho | One on One Normal Match
This was not an extreme rules match but Jericho tried to cheat by grabbing a chair and wedging it into the ring post. He tried to throw Rob Van Dam head first into it, but RVD reversed it, sending Jericho into the chair instead. He then climbed the top rope and hit his Frog Splash finisher on the stunned Y2J to pick up the victory. Post-match, Van Dam slung the Hardcore title over his shoulder, but out came Mick Foley. Foley pointed right at the title and RVD smiled and motioned to Foley that if he wanted it he should come and get it.

Main Event: Road Warriors vs. Hardy Boyz | Two on Two Tag Team | #1 Contender's Match
Before this match to decide who the #1 Contenders for the World Tag Team titles were could even get underway, the Road Warriors attacked the Hardy Boyz from behind. Hawk and Animal were pissed about having the titles they thought they had won stripped due to the fake Nitro show and looked to make a statement. They beat the crap out of the Hardyz rendering both of them unable to compete, then Hawk grabbed the microphone and spoke, "We don't NEED to earn a shot at the titles, as we should already have them. Since these two can't get up, WE are now the #1 contenders from the World Tag Team Championships. Too Cool, I suggest you both run, because things are about to seriously heat up. Backlash spells your Doomsday, for the second time."

Show Opener Promo: Vince McMahon
Smackdown! opened with Vince McMahon again. Vince said he had a major announcement that would completely change the course of the WWE going forwards. "So this, Ruthless Aggression era, we've had these past two years or so has been good. With the likes of John Cena, Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar, Shelton Benjamin and others showing that they can compete with the best of the best in the ring." Vince paused then continued, "However, it's time for it to come to an end. You see, I made my money in this business by changing wrestling into something raw, vulgar and authentic that fans like you want to tune into every week. We brought some of that feeling back with the Hardcore Championship, however I think it's time to bring it ALL the way back. With that said, I present to you the return of the ATTITUDE ERA!"

The crowd burst into cheers as a cloth over the stage was unveiled to show a return to the original Smackdown! backdrop from 1999 when the show first debuted. Vince smiled at their reaction, "I'd like to thank many of these new guys I mentioned before for their services, but with this return to the Attitude Era, I want to bring back some of your favourites from that period as well. And that's not just superstars, that's championships and shows as well."

Vince then announced that the following titles were now defunct: the Cruiserweight Championship, WWE Tag Team Championships, World Heavyweight Championship, WWE Championship and Money in the Bank briefcase.

Vince continued, "RAW will return to its RAW is WAR branding in addition to the changes you see with Smackdown!, and there will be no brand split, you will be able to see your favourite superstars in hard-hitting action on either show on either Monday or Thursday night, that's right, Smackdown's returning to Thursdays starting next week!" The crowd cheered again, Vince wasn't done. "Lastly, as I said earlier, the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships are now defunct with reigning champions Kurt Angle and Edge to be stripped of their gold as a result. Well, replacing them will be the return of the WWE UNDISPUTED CHAMPIONSHIP, a belt that truly signifies who is the #1 star in the company when it is held. And to crown our first ever champion; Edge, Kurt Angle and the former #1 contenders Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock will compete in a Fatal 4-Way at the return of the King of the Ring pay-per-view two weeks from Sunday!" The crowd continued to pop at the amazing news and changes.

"And at King of the Ring. All of the mainline championships will be defended. The Undisputed Championship fatal 4-way, Apollo will defend his Intercontinental Championship against Bulk Bronson, Mansa will defend the United States Championship against Prototype, the winner of an Extreme Rules Fatal 4-Way will face Rob Van Dam for the Hardcore Championship, Too Cool will defend the World Tag Team titles against either the Hardy Boyz or Dudley Boyz and lastly, Mickie James will defend her Women's Championship against Ivory. Vince was almost finished, "And last but not least, the main event of the night will be the finals of the King of the Ring tournament set to take place over the next two weeks. Where the winner will not only be named King of the Ring but also receive a briefcase containing the same opportunity as the Money in the Bank; the opportunity to cash in for the WWE Undisputed Championship any time any place. 16 superstars will compete in a knockout tournament starting next week on RAW is WAR!" Vince pointed to the screen and exited the ring as the King of the Ring bracket was displayed, it showed for a short while before the show came to a close:
