Match #1: nWo vs. Golden Truth | Tornado Tag
The Golden Truth (Goldust and R-Truth) tried to put up a decent fight against Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, but this one eventually ended up being a squash match as Scott Hall put Goldust down with the Razor's Edge while Kevin Nash held R-Truth in place to prevent him from breaking up the cover. After the match, the nWo got on the mic and stated their claim as the best tag team in WCW and that they deserved the vacant WCW titles. They were eventually interrupted by Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart from the Hart Foundation, who felt they were every bit as good as the nWo and could make their own claim for the titles.

John Cena came out with his brand new WCW United States Championship belt, but there would be no time for celebration, he had to take on two of Nitro's toughest competitors, Randy Savage and Shinsuke Nakamura in triple threat action. Cena controlled the match early on, but when Savage got knocked out of the ring, Nakamura started to take control in the one on one bout with Cena. He eventually hit the champ with a Kinshasa, but Savage made his way back into the ring and threw Nakamura out viciously. He then hit the Flying Elbow Drop on Cena to grab a major victory over the United States Champion.

Match #3: Goldberg vs. Scott Steiner | Normal Match
Scott Steiner made his debut in the WWE, although of course under the WCW Nitro brand. He kept things very even with Goldberg, but things took a turn for the worse for him when he started showing off as he had Goldberg on the ropes, then Goldberg suplexed him over the ropes and outside the ring, badly hurting him. When Steiner eventually got to his feet he was met with a massive spear, then rolled back into the ring for Jackhammer Suplex as Goldberg handed him a loss in his debut. Post match, Goldberg offered to shake hands with Steiner and a sportsmanlike Scott accepted, as they both stood with their hands raised in the middle of the ring afterwards.

Main Event: Steve Austin vs. Edge | Normal Match | WCW World Heavyweight Championship
Edge was officially drafted to ECW, however he was still the holder of the World Heavyweight Championship, and Stone Cold Steve Austin wanted to make that exclusive to his new show, WCW. He had earned the right to become #1 contender by beating Brock Lesnar at Summerslam, and showed again in this match how he was able to slay the beast. He was better than Edge for most of the matchup, but the Rated-R superstar had a few tricks up his sleeve, not least of which was Lita, who served as a constant nuisance during the match. After Austin downed Edge with a clothesline late on in the matchup, Ted DiBiase came from his seat and ringside and started fiddling with the turnbuckle, drawing the referee's attention. He then made a signal to Austin, who grabbed a chair and whacked Edge over the head with it while the ref was distracted. Austin then covered Edge as the referee finally turned around and counted to three, making him the new WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Ted DiBiase came into the ring to congratulate Austin, laughing, and handed him a mic. Austin said just a few words to the crowd who were showering the former face with boos for cheating to win the belt, "I used to go by Stone Cold Steve Austin. Well, I've got a new name. I just stunned all you people by wacking this jackass with chair to take his title. I use the Stunner finisher. And my in-ring ability is also simply stunning, from now on I want you to forget about Stone Cold Steve Austin and say hello to your new WCW World Heavyweight Champion, STUNNING Steve Austin.
