September 2003 | Week 4 | Nashville, TN

Match #1: Shelton Benjamin vs. Kurt Angle vs. Batista | Triple Threat | United States Championship #1 Contender
Angle hit the trio of German Suplexes on Shelton Benjamin, but Batista came back into the ring before he could finish him off. Angle squared off with Batista, eventually tossing him back outside the ring. By then, Shelton was back on his feet, but he walked straight into an Angle Slam, as Kurt earned the right to face John Cena at Backlash for the United States Championship.

Match #2: Rey Mysterio vs. Daniel Bryan | One on One | Intercontinental Championship #1 Contender
With the Cruiserweight Division scrapped, the top two stars in the division and two most recent champions were given a great opportunity to compete for the Intercontinental Championship. Rey Mysterio controlled the match early, but Daniel Bryan was able to turn things around a bit when the action spilled to the outside. When they returned to the ring though, Mysterio reversed Bryan's Yes Kicks and ended up hitting a Diving Hurracanrana after a suplex to pin Bryan and book a date with Randy Orton for the Intercontinental title at Backlash.

Match #3: Steve Austin vs. Big Show | Normal Match
The World Heavyweight Champion, Steve Austin, took on the Mr. Money in the Bank, Big Show, in singles action. Austin was not intimidated at all by Show's size and was his usual hard-hitting, brawling self. Show wasn't able to deal with him effectively and eventually ended up on the wrong end of a Stone Cold Stunner. To Austin's bewilderment though, Big Show kicked out of it. Show started to gain a bit of momentum after that, knocking the wind out of Austin with a big leg drop. He then went for the Knockout Punch, but it was dodged by Austin, who then hit Big Show with a second Stunner that he wouldn't kick out of this time around. Great win for Stone Cold heading into his Undisputed Title match with The Rock at Backlash where the World Heavyweight and WWE championships will be unified.

Match #4: Trish Stratus vs. Beth Phoenix | Normal Match | Women's Championship #1 Contender
Mickie James needed a challenger for her Women's Championship at Backlash and Trish and Beth faced off for that opportunity. The stronger Beth Phoenix was overpowering and manhandling Trish, and almost had her beat when she lifted her up for a Glam Slam, but Trish countered it and whipped her into the turnbuckle. Trish then hit the Stratusphere and followed that up with a Chick Kick to stop Beth in her tracks, pick up the win and become the #1 contender. After the match, Beth surprisingly showed good sportsmanship and shook hands with Trish, but will that really be the last we see of these two facing off?

Main Event: Hardy Boyz vs. Chris Jericho & Goldberg | Tag Team
Chris Jericho started off this match with somewhat of a mismatched tag team taking on the World Tag Team Champions, the Hardy Boyz. He did well though early on, controlling the match until Matt was able to tag in Jeff and the tide turned. Jericho was getting killed but eventually managed to get Goldberg involved. Surprisingly Jeff held his own against Goldberg, and even hit him with the Twist of Fate before tagging in Matt Hardy to set him up for a Swanton Bomb, their Extreme Combination finisher that had won them many titles before. Just before Matt could get a rare three count on Goldberg though, Jericho broke up the pinfall. Jeff got involved and he and Y2J brawled on the outside. By then though, Goldberg was back on his feat and speared and then Jackhammered Matt Hardy to pick up the victory. After the match, a dejected Hardy Boyz sat in the ring with their titles as a pair of ominous voices poured over the speakers, "We're coming for you at Backlash..." who exactly could be coming for the tag champs in just six days?
