The Road to Miami & the 2029 National Championship
Boone Tillman // Sooner BornPublished: December 10th, 2029

The 2029 College Football Playoff was thrown for a loop after the dust settled on championship weekend with a pair of upsets after Ohio State ended USC's undefeated season and the North Carolina Tar Heels shocked the nation by downing the first-ranked Hurricanes. As a result, those same Tar Heels and the 16th-ranked Sun Belt Champion Coastal Carolina missed the opportunity to make the playoffs as one of the top five-ranked conference championships.

"Obviously, we are very disappointed in the final decision of the CFP committee," said University of North Carolina Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham after the final bracket was announced, "but, we also understand that if we had won more games, we wouldn't have found ourselves in this situation."

Coastal Carolina athletic director Chance Miller echoed a similar sentiment, acknowledging that an early loss in conference play halted their momentum in the AP polls.

In a written statement, Hunter Yurachek, the CFP selection committee chair, acknowledged the difficulties of finalizing this year's bracket in particular.

"This is the first time that we've had the majority of our conference champions in the first round of the bracket. As a result, there are a number of teams who were on the bubble that ultimately stayed there due to that circumstance."

Of the four teams that secured the first-round bye, only the Oklahoma Sooners claimed their conference championship, as they rocketed up to the overall number one seed after their 49-9 dismantling of the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Their reward? What many are calling the toughest path to the National Championship at Hard Rock Stadium.

"Pittsburgh is a nice story, but no one thinks they're sliding past USC," said one anonymous athletic director, "So Oklahoma is going to have to face either Ohio State or Georgia in the Cotton Bowl, then either Tennessee or USC in the Sugar Bowl. That is an insanely hard schedule compared to what either Miami or Notre Dame may have to face, which will likely be each other."

"We haven't ducked the smoke all season, and we aren't going to start now," proclaimed Armando Leon when asked about the difficult schedule ahead of the Sooners despite earning the number one overall seed.

The National Awards ceremony will be held this weekend, December 15th, before the first round of the College Football Playoff will officially kick off on Friday, December 21st.

#12 Pittsburgh (10-2) will travel to Los Angeles to face #5 USC (12-1) with the winner traveling to the Fiesta Bowl to face #4 Tennessee.

Big Ten champion #9 Ohio State (12-2) makes the trip south to Athens to clash with the #8 Georgia Bulldogs (10-2) between the hedges. The #1 overall seeded SEC champion Oklahoma Sooners (12-1) await the winner in the Cotton Bowl.

Big 12 champion #11 Texas Tech (11-2) will trek to The Blue as they face Pac-12 Champion #6 Boise State (13-0) for the honor of traveling to the Orange Bowl in a veritable home game for the #3 Miami Hurricanes (11-2).

Lastly, American champion #10 Tulane (11-2) heads north for a showdown with #7 Missouri. The #2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish lie in wait for the winner in a Peach Bowl clash.

Oklahoma Is Officially #HeismanU After Oscar Robledo Announced As 2029 Nissan Heisman Memorial Trophy Winner
Boone Tillman // Sooner BornPublished: December 15th, 2029

Despite Oscar Robledo generating over 2,400 yards and over 30 touchdowns alone for the Oklahoma Sooners this season, there were some who genuinely questioned if USC quarterback Tavien St. Clair was more deserving of the award after leading the USC Trojans to a 12-0 regular season record behind over 3,200 passing yards, 600 rushing yards, and 49 touchdowns to just one turnover.

Then, St. Clair looked like a shell of himself in a 36-14 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Big Ten Championship, throwing for just 200 yards with an interception and two fumbles. In contrast, Robledo was the engine that powered the Sooners to a 49-9 drubbing of South Carolina with four total touchdowns and over 200 all-purpose yards.

"I don't see how anyone watching what we're seeing on the field can say anyone but Oscar Robledo is the 2029 Heisman winner," boldly declared Kirk Herbstreit on the broadcast during the SEC Championship Game.

The highlight of the season for Robledo may not be any of his explosive runs, or jaw-dropping elusiveness, but a heads-up play that put the South Carolina Gamecocks away for good. With just three seconds on the clock in the first half of the SEC Championship, Sooner wide receiver Ja'Kayden Ferguson hauled in a routine drag route looking to make a move before the half and score an improbable touchdown. Instead, Ferguson was rocked after the catch and coughed the ball up near midfield. After the ball bounced around between a pair of diving players, it was none other than Oscar Robledo who came racing over from the far side of the field, locating the ball and scooping it in one fluid motion, before exploding upfield for the jaw-dropping 57-yard touchdown to end the half with a 28-9 Sooner lead.

"That just shows his drive," lauded Head Coach Armando Leon after the game, "He never gives up until the play is blown dead."

On Saturday in New York, Robledo was officially honored for his exemplary play for the Sooners as the 2029 Nissan Heisman Memorial Trophy winner, the record-setting ninth Oklahoma Sooner to capture the award.

"I didn't come to Norman to run my way into the record books," began Robledo on the podium as the Heisman award capped a night where he also received the Doak Walker, Walter Camp, and Maxwell, "I came here to prove to the Texas Longhorns, my childhood team, that they made a mistake in not recruiting me, twice. What I didn't realize then, was running into the record books was the only way I'd really make my point. I can't think of a better way to stick it to them one more time than to elevate the Sooners to the college football program with the most Heisman Trophy winners."

"Well, actually I have one more idea," said the Friendswood, Texas, native, "And that's to win a National Championship. BOOMER SOONER!"

Oscar Robledo's final numbers look straight out of a video game as he individually accounted for over 40% of the Oklahoma Sooners' offensive production. 1,742 rushing yards, 888 receiving yards, a school-record 25 rushing touchdowns, and 10 more receiving touchdowns have cemented Robledo as one of the most versatile offensive weapons in modern college football.

And with postseason stats counting towards records now, many are wondering how many more records Robledo can break.

200 more yards will have Robledo pass Adrian Peterson for the Oklahoma single-season record. 500 yards and some change will eclipse Derrick Henry's SEC rushing record, and four more touchdowns will shatter Henry's rushing touchdown mark.

While breaking all-time legend Barry Sanders rushing numbers of 2,628 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns is likely out of the picture barring a generational postseason performance, Robledo will likely become only the second player in college football history, and the first at the FBS level, to record over 1,000 rushing and receiving yards in a single season.

"Any way you slice it, Oscar will go down as one of the most explosive weapons in college football history," declared Armando Leon.

While Oscar Robledo has been the most talked about player in college football this season, deservedly so, he is far from the only Sooner to collect some hardware after their dominant season.

MLB Kyle Brink brought home the Bednarik, Nagurski, and Dick Butkus awards behind 100 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks.

Cornerback Ralph Saylor earned the Jim Thorpe Award after leading the nation with 16 pass breakups and DT Karlos Vigil earned the Lombardi after coming half-a-sack within leading the nation in sacks with 16.5 and second with 25 tackles for loss.

Lastly, Isaac Adcock secured the Jet Award for his phenomenal work in both kick and punt returns.

With a ton of hardware coming back to Norman, the Oklahoma Sooners will now enjoy a rare week off as they await the result of the #9 Ohio State Buckeyes and the #8 Georgia Bulldogs.

Armando Leon Goes On Record Declaring No Interest In Open Jobs Despite Interest From Multiple Programs
Boone Tillman // Sooner BornPublished: December 17th, 2029

"I wanted to get ahead of the early, unsubstantiated reports that my agent, Harvey Ross, has been discussing my availability with any other collegiate program," began Armando Leon at an impromptu press conference two days after Oscar Robledo hoisted the Heisman Memorial Trophy in New York. "The only job in the country I'm interested in is right here in Norman, Oklahoma. I have not, and will not, be in contact with Michigan, Clemson, Nebraska, or anyone else that comes poking around."

"To quote one of my favorite coaches of all time, 'There isn't a booster with a big enough blank check. Period.'"

Listen folks, when I saw the programs that fired their coaches this offseason, I paused. I'll admit it. I compared them to our current situation and thought to myself, "He wouldn't...would he?"

Bless their heart for trying, but I didn't believe a damn word in those reports that the representatives for Clemson and Michigan had been in contact with Coach Leon.

They mighta called his agent; sure, no problem doing your due diligence. But this yahoo from 'Dam Daily' spouting off that he knows someone that works in the same agency as Leon's agent, Harvey Ross, and that they've been talking contracts is utterly ridiculous.

I'm glad he came out and officially nipped the rumors in the bud, 'cause that's the type of story that can tear a team apart at the worst possible moment.

From what I'm hearing—and these are CREDIBLE sources y'all—is that Marcus Freeman is contemplating a sacrilegious move as a former Ohio State Buckeye and is in talks to become the replacement for Steve Sarkisian at Michigan, while Penn State's James Franklin is currently in talks to replace the recently fired Dabo Swinney.

So long as they keep their noses out of Norman, they can hire whoever they want. We've got bigger fish to fry, and no I'm not talking halibut.

:whatido:

Leon never went on record anywhere else saying he wasn't going to take a new job. Senor Leon is a lot of things, but dishonest is not one of them.
