Justin Herbert Signs A 1-Year Deal With The Atlanta Falcons After Losing QB Battle To Fitzpatrick Last Season
After 10 seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, veteran quarterback Justin Herbert is looking to begin a new chapter in his NFL career.
Coming into free agency as the best available quarterback, Herbert had many offers thrown his way. It was just deciding which offense would he thrive the best in.
Enter the Atlanta Falcons. A team full of weapons that just hasn't quite put it all together yet.
Michael Penix Jr. has been the starting quarterback for the past three seasons, & while he's shown signs of potential, the Falcons have only been to the postseason once, with a Wildcard loss against the Seattle Seahawks in 2028.
"I'm excited to be a part of the Falcons' organization." Herbert said to ESPN.com following his free agency decision. "I can't wait to get on the field & see what type of chemistry we'll have season."
Herbert, now 32, spent his entire career with the Chargers, who drafted him in 2020. The Chargers opted for a younger quarterback last season & selected Cam Fitzpatrick out of West Virginia with the 4th pick in the 2029 NFL Draft.
Ultimately, Herbert lost his starting position to the rookie & is ready to show the world that he's still got what it takes.
