Mario Cristobal's Frankenstein continues to take shape with commitment from five-star tackle Lyle Rasmussen
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports Miami Insider
The Miami Hurricanes might have already landed the top ranked player in the country in Alex York and a five-star quarterback in Terrance Harris but Miami's latest commitment is surely Mario Cristobal's favorite as the Hurricanes landed a commitment from five-star offensive tackle Lyle Rasmussen.
Rasmussen, a top five tackle this cycle, picked Miami over Oregon and Alabama and is one of the more physically impressive trench bullies this cycle. A state championship in weight lifting, Rasmussen is a good looking six-foot-four, 291 pound prospect with not a lot of baby weight on him and a frame that could get up to the 320s by the time he's done at the college level. He does have a tendency to be overly reliant on his athleticism and will need to work on his technique but the framework is there for Rasmussen to be a dominant player for the Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes already have two blue chip tackles in tow in Rasmussen and four-star local prospect Glenn Salaam but they likely aren't done at the position. Miami is considered the favorite for Jay Pierschbacher, a top ten prospect, and Quentin Washington which would give the Hurricanes three five-star offensive linemen in a single class.

Hurricanes land two more commitments from five-stars as linebacker Edward Verrier and defensive end Rashad Garnes to team up in Coral Gables
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports Miami Insider
Two of the country's top defenders are heading to the University of Miami with five-star linebacker Edward Verrier (Horn Lake High School) and defensive end Rashad Garnes (IMG Academy) announcing their commitments to the Miami Hurricanes.
Verrier is the second ranked inside linebacker this cycle, behind another Miami target in Brian Baskett who will be deciding between Miami, UCLA and Oregon soon. Verrier picked the Hurricanes over SEC powers LSU and Kentucky, notching another impressive win on the cycle for Mario Cristobal and defensive coordinator Skylor Magee. Verrier is your prototypical WILL linebacker and is ideal for modern college defenses that are geared towards slowing down opponents passing games and being able to cover sideline to sideline.
While Verrier might be undersized, Garnes is jumbo-sized at six-foot-three and 298 pounds with experience on the edge. He'll likely play a similar role as Shaun Turner in Miami's 3-4 defense as a five-technique in base and then sliding inside when the Hurricanes go with four down linemen. He's been uber productive at IMG and projects to be an instant impact player for the Hurricanes once he arrives at Miami.
It was an in-state battle for Garnes who picked Miami over Florida State and UCF. Of the top six players in the state of Florida, Miami currently has commitments from two of them in Garnes and Terrance Harris with a potential third on the way in IMG Academy's Siaki Tu'iolovatu.

Bye Week Report: Forget top-ranked Alabama, this year's Hurricanes are chasing the ghosts of the past
Manny Ledo -- The Miami Herald Sports Columnist
In the latest AP Poll, the Alabama Crimson Tide are still the top ranked team in the country, buoyed by wins over once ranked Notre Dame (2-4) and Georgia Tech (0-4). Despite the collapse of those teams, the Tide remain atop the AP Polls but it's no matter of concern for the Hurricanes as they head into their bye week as their goals are much loftier than that following their dominant start to the season.
"We're just focused on going 1-0," Miami quarterback Keke Hagg told reporters when asked about comparisons to Miami's 2001 championship team, widely considered the greatest college football team of all time, "We went through it last year, the grind of a season and how long it really is to win a championship so we can't think about. We're just trying to be the best versions of ourselves every day and I do believe that the best version of ourselves beats anyone, that team included, but we have to prove that by winning every single game, every single snap and just take it from there."
Hagg broke Ken Dorsey's record for most career passing touchdowns last week and Davon Momah now holds the record for most receiving yards and receptions at Miami, needing six more touchdowns to break Jeremiah Smith's record for most career touchdowns.
In the running game, Miami might not have a Willis McGahee/Clinton Portis/Frank Gore trio in the backfield but the amalgamation of Deron Tryon, Aidan Teague, Kaseem Dalton and Javier Torrez has given Miami the nation's top ranked rushing offense to go along with a top ten passing offense.
Defensively, there might not be an Ed Reed on the team but the Hurricanes boast the nation's top ranked rushing defense -- by a wide margin -- and the most sacks in the country with an ACC-leading seven interceptions and top ranked scoring defense.
It's hard to spot a weakness on Miami's roster nor a potential stumble in their schedule with only two ranked opponents left in their schedule in 3-2 NC State (#19) at home and then undefeated California (#14) at home. Their next two games are rivalry games against Virginia Tech and Florida State but they should be up for those games.

Receiving: Davon Momah (43 receptions, 435 yards, 8 TD)

Midseason Award - Most Valuable Player
Since trailing 14-0 to Notre Dame, Keke Hagg has been on fire and is emerging as an early favorite for the Heisman. He's starting to find success pushing the ball down the field, averaging a career high 9.7 yards per attempt.
Another candidate would be Davon Momah who is the only player on th team with more than 13 receptions and he has 43. The offense starts with him and his ability to be effective with the ball in his hands, leading the way with 329 yards after the catch.
Midseason Award - Most Improved Player
A former five-star, Deron Tryon remained patient and is making the most of his opportunities, averaging 6.2 yards per carry and ninety-five yards per game after carrying the ball just twice all of last season.
He's currently leading the ACC in rushing and has an outside shot at becoming an All-American if he can keep up this impressive pace.
Midseason Award - Best Freshman
Nick Kahn exploded onto the scene last week with three sacks but he's been steadily impressing and taking on a bigger role after redshirting last year. The Hurricanes entered the year without a proven pass rusher and so far, Kahn has emerged as the Hurricanes' top EDGE and should continue to be a prominent player down the road.
Midseason Superlative - Most Disappointing Unit
The secondary has been spotty with Elias Raines, who came in looking to set the Miami record for career interceptions, struggling with his tackling and in coverage.
With the team jumping out to early leads, its understandable that the Hurricanes' passing defense ranked near the bottom of the ACC but they need to do a better job of stopping the explosive plays.

Miami strengthen leads over Oregon with two more five-stars jumping aboard in IMG Academy's Siaki Tu'ikolovatu and Quentin Washington
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports Miami Insider
The gap between the Miami Hurricanes' top ranked recruiting class and Oregon's is the same as the gap between the Ducks' second ranked class and Duke, who has the country's eight ranked recruiting class with two three-stars and eight two-star prospects. This comes after Miami landed two five-star commitments to bring their class total to seven following the commitment of cornerback Siaki Tu'ikolovatu and offensive tackle Quentin Washington.
Originally out of American Samoa, Tu'ikolovatu is the fourth ranked corner this cycle with sticky coverage skills and the ability to play anywhere in the secondary. He was a common visitor on-campus this past spring and summer so the commitment is no surprise, even with Georgia and Alabama making a late push for him.
For Washington, it was Miami that was able to track down the hometown Volunteers and make a strong enough case for Washington to jump aboard the 'Canes recruiting class which already features a five-star offensive tackle in Lyle Rasmussen and potentially another in Jay Pierschbacher. Ultimately, Washington's strong relationship with offensive line coach Alex Mirabal and Miami head coach Mario Cristobal led to them getting the Tennessee native's commitment.

Five-star linebacker Brian Baskett commits to Miami over Oregon, UCLA
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports Miami Insider
Five-star linebacker Brian Baskett out of Chandler, Arizona is heading east, committing to sign with the Miami Hurricanes over Oregon and UCLA.
Baskett, who is the top ranked inside linebacker in the country, joins a recruiting class that already features the top ranked outside linebacker (Alex York), another top two inside linebacker in Edward Verrier, a top-five corner in Siaki Tu'ikolovatu and three blue-chip defensive lineman in Rashad Garnes, Jeremiah Sprinkle and Eric Charles.
A top five player in the country, Baskett meshes nicely with Verrier who is more of a WILL linebacker while Baskett is your traditional MIKE linebacker with some plus-athleticism that allows him to be an every down player for the Hurricanes as early as next year.
