Miami beats out Nebraska for Marcus Cavazos but can't close the deal with Melbourne's Jerod Garnes
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports Miami Insider
The Florida State Seminoles might have lost on the field but they at least won on the recruiting trail this past weekend against the Miami Hurricanes, edging out their rival to get the commitment from four-star cornerback Jerod Garnes.
Miami got involved in his recruitment pretty recently, turning up the heat on him following an offer that went out two months ago. While the Canes made the table along with Florida and Florida State, Garnes' relationship with Florida State's coaching staff that had been forged since Everett Withers was hired proved to be too much, even with Jerod's cousin, five-star defensive end Rashad Garnes, being committed to Miami.
Miami did land a commitment from St. Thomas Aquinas receiver Marcus Cavazos, who picked his hometown Canes over Nebraska. Cavazos is an impressive athlete at six-foot-five with impressive top end speed, body control and a knack for making leaping grabs. He could figure into a role pretty early on as a jump ball specialist, especially if Max North goes pro after next year.

Overtime against a team with a losing record? Wait I shouldn't throw stones from a glass home.
NC State was a paper tiger last outing. Let's get them again!

I get wanting upsets in simmed games but EA needs to tweak it, way too many highly rated teams with terrible records

Keke Hagg, Miami outlast North Carolina State to remain undefeated
Miami quarterback Keke Hagg did a little bit of everything, throwing for 210 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 53 yards in the Hurricanes' 31-20 win over North Carolina State on Saturday to extend their twenty-four game winning streak.
Hagg was without top receiver Davon Momah for most of the game, who left the game with an undisclosed illness and did not return. Hagg would find Tyler Rattay on third down for the go ahead touchdown in the second quarter. After an NC State field goal to cut into the lead, Hagg would make quick work of the Wolfpack's defense in the final twenty five seconds of the half, finding Etinosa Ha for a 27-yard completion to get the ball to the NC State 37-yard line and then ripped off of a fourteen yard scramble to set up Glen Burns' 40-yard field goal to extend the lead.
Hagg surpassed Brad Kaaya for the most career passing yards in Miami Hurricanes history. He is now the record holder for career passing yards and touchdowns as well as single-season passing yards and touchdowns.
The Hurricanes never looked back with Rattay opening the second half with another touchdown after Hagg had a 27-yard completion to Max North on third and sixteen earlier in the drive and then rushed for 34 yards on a scramble play a few plays later. Hagg would throw another third quarter touchdown to Miguel Escobar to make it 31-13.
NC State would score with eight minutes left in the half but a missed field goal with 4:26 left kept them at bay as Miami's running game was able to run out the clock.

On the bright side, I think it's encouraging to know that this offense still plays well without their leading receiver. Good win.
