The Victory Lap: We might need to prepare for a life without Trumaine Lasike, Streeter had a heater and you're saying there's a chance?

Stanford head coach Bubba Mack was caught in a bit of a pickle when asked by reporters if due to this week's game against No. 11 Oklahoma being a non-conference game if he would consider resting his starters, particularly running back Trumaine Lasike who was rested in the second half against California. A few questions prior, Mack had downplayed the season finale against No. 11 Oklahoma, the defending national champions, his alma mater and perhaps more importantly, the team that knocked Stanford out of the playoffs last year, calling it just another faceless, nameless opponent that they have to take care of.
"You're talking about a chance to play one of the top teams in the country," Mack said, "You don't get a lot of opportunities to both play a really good team but also being mindful of the permutations and what not so we'll see how it goes this week with our guys and in the game."
It was essentially a non-answer, leaving the door open for Lasike, whose been dealing with various injuries down the stretch, and others to maybe start but also not finish the game, even if the Cardinal are losing.
Stanford had to play Oklahoma last season in the playoffs without Jamarice Wilder whose nagging injuries eventually shut him down. Could Stanford, wisely, rest him against Oklahoma, roll the dice on the fact that even with a loss, the most important game is the one after when they play SMU in the ACC Championship Game? The downside? If they lose to SMU, and Oklahoma, they are likely out of the playoffs but if they beat Oklahoma, no matter what happens in Charlotte, they're likely in.
Benjamin Streeter fills in admirably for Kentrell Marvin
Redshirt freshman Benjamin Streeter made his first career start last week, replacing the injured five-star true freshman Kentrell Marvin and had a career game with eight tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks.
Streeter's effectiveness as a blitzer off the edge was particularly impressive considering the fact that he's just 163 pounds, one of the reasons why Marvin, even as a true freshman, got the start over him as he's over two hundred pounds.
Marvin is expected to be back this week but even with his return, this is a huge boost of confidence for Streeter who rotates in at both corner and nickel and they'll likely need contributions from him as they play an Oklahoma offense that threw the ball all over the place against Stanford last year.
Bubba Mack pays Malik Marshall a visit as he cancels final OV
The five-star running back announced on social media that he would no longer be visiting Penn State this weekend. The post before that? A picture with him and Mack in his living room in what appeared to be an in-home visit.
The fact that Mack, in the midst of a playoff run and before a ranked matchup, took the time to visit Marshall speaks on Marshall's importance and value to this class in both reality and perception.
Marshall would be the second five-star player that Mack has signed at Stanford, joining Marvin, and the first offensive player. Notre Dame continues to be a threat and the odds on favorite but if feels like the announcement of cancelling his visit, coupled with Mack's in-home visit, could be a sign that it's tighter than many expected.
Marshall has previously stated that he wants to sign in the early period in December so an announcement should come shortly.
Get ready to learn Pac-12, buddy
Stanford's officials met this past weekend in a meeting that didn't include Mack but did include Stanford general manager Andrew Luck along with other high-ranking athletic department members to discuss the university's stance on conference realignment.
Miami is officially joining the Big Ten next season and it's widely expected that Clemson and Florida State will be the next schools to leave, heading to the SEC. The expectations is that once that happens, SMU will receive a formal invite to the Big 12, which they will likely accept.
Pittsburgh, North Carolina, Duke, Syracuse and Louisville are among the schools that have already shared with conference officials that they intend to stay. Stanford, so far, has not.
The concern for the Cardinal, particularly their Olympic sports, is the high cost of travel since the move to the ACC. While financially it has made sense for the football team, and to the lesser extend the basketball program which is the conference's stronghold and why schools such as Duke and North Carolina instead to stick it out, it has been brutal for Stanford's non-revenue generating sports which has been the lifeblood of Stanford's storied athletics department.
An invite to the Big Ten isn't likely, with UCLA and USC already bringing in the California market and the SEC has shown no interest and would present the same costly issues. A move back to the Pac-12, which Cal has already began discussing, could be in the works for the Cardinal.
It would be a step backward for the football program as the conference currently has no ranked teams. The ACC, even removing the teams scheduled to leave, has two, including Stanford. If Stanford does stay, it may be enough to convince the likes of SMU to stick it out and be more attractive to other schools such as James Madison or Southern Miss or Western Kentucky, or, ironically, Kennesaw State as potential options to join the conference.

Stanford adds shifty slot receiver Shaquille Zimmons to the their recruiting class
Chris Wallace -- 247Sports Stanford Football Insider
Three-star receiver Shaquille Zimmons from Inglewood, California has committed to the Stanford Cardinal, becoming the sixth member of a recruiting class that is slowly rising up the ranks and nearing the top fifty.
Zimmons, who folks inside Stanford's football program have compared to current Stanford receiver Sam Tonga, is listed at five-foot-nine and 172 pounds and has been an extremely productive receiver for the Sentinels. While he lacks ideal size nor has top end speed, Zimmons is a shifty receiver that gets in and out of his routes quickly and has a knack for making tough, contested catches across the middle.
Tonga is slightly thicker, nearing 190 pounds but the staff believes that with time, Zimmons could get sturdier and that he plays stronger than his listed weight. Alfonso Bramble, the team's current starter in the slot, came into spring practice lighter than Zimmons' current weight and he's been productive for the Cardinal.
A new name to watch on the trail is Maryland's David Drake, a teammate of Stanford target and five-star running back Malik Marshall. Drake is far from a package deal situation as he holds offers from Oklahoma, Maryland, Oregon and West Virginia and will be a tough get for the Cardinal but they recently offered him according to Drake's social media.
Stanford is joining the party late but after missing out on Derek Cockrill, who signed with Georgia, they quickly pivoted to Drake whose relationship with Marshall can't hurt. They also offered Atlanta's Braydon Meeks, a three-star with interest from North Carolina State as well.
The Cardinal will be hosting linebacker Kevin Macklin and tight end Colt Mixon whose three-star ranking isn't indicative of the coaching staff's internal grade on him as they view him as a potential day-one contributor.
