Hurricanes lose two key starters as Jesus Angel, Dominick Longo declare for the draft
Carlos Navarro -- The Athletic Staff Writer

The Miami Hurricanes will need to rebuild their offensive line after two starters in redshirt sophomore Jesus Angel and redshirt junior Dominick Longo declared for the draft. Angel and Longo join seniors Richard Cookus and Damian Carmona as starters that Miami will need to replace with left tackle Darrius Keyes being the lone returning starter along the offensive line.

The defending national champions are losing plenty of firepower with twenty one key contributors from last year's team set to either graduate or enter the NFL draft, including the team's leading passer (Keke Hagg), leading rusher (Deron Tryon), leading receiver (Davon Momah) and the aforementioned four starters along the offensive line. Defensively, Miami is only returning three staters in cornerback Manuel Arcuri, linebacker Alec Lawrence and defensive lineman Nick Kahn.

Miami finishes with nation's top ranked class, add three high ranked transfer portal prospects
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports Miami Insider

The Miami Hurricanes rounded out their recruiting class with three transfer portal additions with Iowa State defensive end Kevin Francis, Ole Miss receiver Duke Cundiff and Old Dominion cornerback Thomas Manning.

The Hurricanes beat out USC and Michigan for Francis, landing one of the top defensive ends in the portal. At six-foot-two and 271 pounds, Francis has a similar build to Doug Bean who played nearly seven hundred snaps for the Hurricanes and was an all-conference selection with fifteen tackles for loss and ten sacks as primarily an interior pass rusher.

Cundiff was a big time win on the recruiting trail for the Hurricanes who add a veteran presence to a young receiver room after battling Georgia and Florida for his commitment. Cundiff led Ole Miss with 61 receptions for 866 yards and thirteen touchdowns last season, entering the portal as one of the most accomplished players available. The Hurricanes are losing a ton of production with the graduation of Davon Momah, last year's Heisman winner, as well as Miguel Escobar who was third on the team in receiving yards and snaps played. Cundiff could very well by Miami's top receiver next year, alongside Max North who lead the team with 21.2 yards per reception.

Perhaps the most impactful signing could be Manning, the second ranked corner in the portal with two years of eligibility remaining. He has all of the traits to be a future NFL cornerback at six-foot-three and pushing 190 pounds with Georgia and Kentucky also showing interest in the Old Dominion transfer. Miami is extremely thin at corner with only three returning scholarship players in Manuel Arcuri, Jason Wall and Paul Webb with only Arcuri being over six feet. The Miami native played over 400 snaps last year as a sophomore and was Old Dominion's highest ranked defender according to Pro Football Focus.

Max North emerging as early favorite to wear the No. 1 jersey as spring practices are underway
By Will Backus, CBS College Football Writer • 4 min read

Former Miami Hurricanes receiver Davon Momah couldn't contain his smile when a reporter asked him who he thought should be next in line to wear the No. 1 jersey for Miami in 2030 after him and quarterback Keke Hagg shared the number last year, with Momah taking over following Hagg's season ending injury.

"I think Max [North] is the next guy up," Momah said last week at the NFL Scouting Combine, "He's got everything you want in a receiver and he's just a serious guy when it comes to football. He's a team first guy and he's willing to do whatever it takes to help the team and help the guys around him and I think that's what wearing that jersey is all about."

Momah was exactly that for Miami in his final year of eligibility, breaking school and ACC records on his way to becoming the program's first Heisman winner under Mario Cristobal.

While packaged differently at six-foot-six and two hundred pounds, North brings a lot of the speed and positional versatility that Momah provided with the ability to play all three receiver positions in Miami's offense.

As a freshman, North primarily operated out of the slot, catching eight touchdown passes and averaging 11.5 yards per reception. With the move to the outside last year, North became a more dynamic down the field threat, averaging 21.2 yards per reception with the ability to turn a simple crossing route into a big play.

Other potential candidates to wear the No. 1 jersey are quarterback Bernie Flowers and running back Aidan Teague. Flowers led Miami to their second consecutive national championship following Hagg's injury while Teague is the clear replacement for the graduating Deron Tryon, who won the Doak Walker Award last season.

Nick Kahn getting plenty of pro buzz after breakout campaign
Nick Kahn might have two years of eligibility remaining but its highly unlikely that he'll use them after breaking out as a redshirt freshman last year with 22 tackles for loss and twelve sacks.

Kahn is becoming a popular name at the top of the NFL mock drafts and another solid season, which all begins in the spring, could catapult him into two-and-done status.

The Ocala native will garner a lot much attention from opposing offensive coordinators and offensive line as he enters his second year as a starter. Kahn also got the benefit of playing alongside veterans Shaun Turner, Doug Bean, Dan Mintze and Rico Veasy who were heralded recruits and accomplished players in their own right.

Kahn will be the focus of attention for most offensive gameplans, alongside Iowa State transfer Kevin Francis. They are the only two players along Miami's defensive line with substantive playing experience.

Image
Former Michigan transfer Aidan Teague was dynamic for Miami last year, averaging five yards per carry and scored twelve touchdowns for the Hurricanes
The freshmen are looking the part
The pads have yet to come on but early on, the freshmen class is getting plenty of love from Miami's coaching staff after going through winter workouts.

The standouts are running backs Sammy Ramey and Broderick Booker who look the part, especially Booker at six-foot and 230 pounds with a frame that could easily go into the 240s once he's had years in a college strength and conditioning program. The running back room is loaded with Aidan Teague and Kaseem Dalton returning, who combined for twenty touchdowns last year. Javier Torrez, another five-star, also showed flashes as a true freshman, averaging 7.5 yards per carry.

Five-star quarterback Terrance Harris might already be the most physical impressive one in the room at six-foot-four and 204 pounds with probably the most dynamic arm in the room. While the path to playing time isn't there for Harris for next season, a strong spring could help push the freshman quarterback into that QB2 role over upperclassmen like Stephen Isaacs and Jeff Beavers.

Other names that have gotten some positive buzz coming out of winter workouts are offensive tackle Jay Pierschbacher, defensive end Rashad Garnes, and defensive tackle Karl Tuten.
