Four-star defensive tackle Dan Mintze jumps onboard to Miami's top ranked recruiting class as leads grows
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports Miami Insider

Cardinal Newman defensive tackle Dan Mintze just wanted to see Miami win and after the Hurricanes' wins over rival Florida and Florida State, they showed the four-star prospect exactly what he needed to see to make his decision.

Mintze became the sixteenth member of Miami's 2025 recruiting class, which currently has the edge over Georgia for the nation's top ranked recruiting class which will likely come down to those two programs come National Signing Day. The six-foot-three, 287-pound defensive tackle picked the Hurricanes over UCF, who he was scheduled to visit next month but says that he's cancelled that visit and is officially shutting down his recruitment.

"I wanted to see them win and they've done that," said Mintze, who grew up a fan of the Hurricanes were both of his parents graduated from and his older sister currently attends, "Once I saw that, it was an easy decision and the right one."

Miami continues to prioritize the trenches with Mintze being the fourth defensive linemen in this class, fifth if you count edge rusher Walt Coffey who will likely play defensive end in Miami's defense. He has some similarities to fellow commits Kevin Yeboah and Doug Bean as interior bodies that perhaps don't have the ideal length for a defensive tackle but is twitched up, athletic and productive as a pass rusher.

Miami has four seniors at defensive tackle so replenishing that room was a priority which the Hurricanes have accomplished.

Wesley Bissainthe believed in Miami and now the Hurricanes believe in him
Carlos Navarro -- The Athletic Staff Writer

A four-star linebacker at the time, Miami Central's Wesley Bissainthe committed to Manny Diaz and the Miami Hurricanes, picking the hometown team over Florida State despite late pushes from Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell and defensive coordinator Adam Fuller who came to visit Bissainthe just two days prior to his commitment.

Two days later, Diaz would be fired and Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal would come home to coach his alma mater. One of Cristobal's first stop? Miami Central High School to lock down Bissainthe's commitment, who would sign with Miami later that month. Bissainthe is among several Hurricanes that committed to and/or played for Diaz, who is coming into town with his Duke Blue Devils to try to upset the program that fired him unceremoniously nearly three years ago, openly courting Cristobal while Diaz was still Miami's coach.

Bissainthe says he's grateful to Diaz and his staff for the initial offer but that he'd glad he remained committed to Miami, amidst the coaching turnover.

Miami is grateful as well as Bissainthe has turned into one of college football's best linebackers, leading the country with 21 tackles for loss. It hasn't always been easy for Bissainthe, who etched out a role as a freshman and became a full-time starter last year but at times struggled as an undersized linebacker. He's up to 222 pounds now after arriving to Coral Gables at 193 pounds, something he credits Miami's nutrition program for.

"I’m not going to say it was easy. You definitely got to eat. You got to drink your protein shakes. It's a lot," says Bissainthe, "I feel more explosive. I feel like I'm stronger. Man, I needed it. I'm hitting the O-line consistently. So you need that weight to be able to do it all game long."

Since picking Miami over Florida State, Bissainthe had never beaten the Seminoles until last week where he finished the game with eleven tackles, four tackles for loss and was in on the sack of D.J. Uiagalelei on fourth down. In Miami's last two games, Bissainthe has eleven tackles for loss along with three pass breakups and 24 tackles. He was also impactful against Florida with four tackles for loss and a sack.

Despite the best efforts of Cristobal and Diaz to downplay this week as just any other week, it promises to be an energized stadium and a game full of emotions for both coaches and the several Miami players that played for Diaz.

Miami Hurricanes triumph over Duke Blue Devils, 45-27, in Manny Diaz's return
In a highly anticipated matchup, the Miami Hurricanes secured a decisive 45-27 victory over the Duke Blue Devils, advancing to an impressive 8-1 on the season and 4-1 in ACC play. The game marked the return of Duke head coach Manny Diaz to Miami, where he faced his former team for the first time since his departure.

Miami’s offense came out strong, with quarterback Cam Ward overcoming a shaky start that included two interceptions. Ward found his rhythm in the second half, finishing with 231 yards passing and two touchdowns. The Hurricanes’ ground game was equally effective, amassing a total of 202 rushing yards. Damien Martinez led the charge with 82 yards on the ground.

The Hurricanes suffered a setback early in the game when wide receiver Xavier Restrepo left the field with an injury after the first quarter. Miami head coach Mario Cristobal described Restrepo's injury as a minor strain and that he anticipates Restrepo to be a full participant by the end of the week.

Despite this, Miami’s offense continued to dominate, building a substantial lead. Defensively, Reuben Bain Jr. led the way with three tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Francisco Mauigoa recorded an interception and led the team with twelve tackles.

Duke’s offense struggled to find its footing in the first half but managed to score three touchdowns in the second half. Two of these touchdowns came during garbage time in the final two minutes, making the final score more respectable.

With this victory, Miami solidifies its position as a formidable contender in the ACC, while Duke looks to regroup after a challenging game. The Hurricanes will look to carry this momentum forward as they continue their pursuit of a conference championship.
