On November 9, 2024, UTEP defeated Kennesaw State 43–35 in double overtime at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, capitalizing on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Skyler Locklear to Kenny Odom in the second OT. Locklear finished 28-of-33 for 327 yards and four TDs (three to Odom), while Trey Goodman piled up 150 receiving yards on 12 catches. Despite a 97-yard kickoff return TD by Qua Ashley and a game‑tying 14‑yard run by Davis Bryson in regulation, the Owls couldn’t close it out as UTEP overcame turnovers and battled control of the ball to seal the win in dramatic fashion.
Players to Watch
QB Skyler Locklear (Jr) | 5′11″, 195 lbs | 76 OVR, 81 SPD, 85 THP, 84 SAC, 83 MAC, 72 DAC
‣ Locklear lost the starting job to Malachi Nelson, the transfer quarterback whose shown some flashes after overtaking the more experienced Locklear. As a starter last year, Locklear was tied for the second fewer interceptions in the conference and was a pretty steady decision maker. While he might not have the arm talent of Nelson, he should be able to keep the Miners offense on schedule against Kennesaw State.
WR Kenny Odom (Jr) | 5'10", 170lbs | 84 OVR, 93 SPD, 94 ACC, 87 CTH
‣ UTEP's most dangerous player, Odom is capable of making a play at any point in the game. Odom hasn't been able to break one loose with his longest reception of the season being 31 yards. The Savannah native is averaging 15.2 yards per reception, a yard down from last year, but he could be due for a big game against the Owls who are without one of their top corners in Tyler Hallum.
DT K.D. Johnson (Sr) | 6'1", 275lbs | 78 OVR, 79 STR, 84 PMV, 77 FMV, 78 BSH
‣ A consistent interior force, Johnson leads the Miners in tackles-for-loss (10 TFL), already besting his team-leading 8.5 last season. With not much production from their edge rushers, his ability to hold the point of attack and shed blocks will be critical in disrupting Kennesaw State’s offense.

the only downside to banking on transfer portal and not recruiting is you've got a small window to grab them. If you're listed as #1 in Week 1, but UGA decides to fuck up your plans & blows past you suddenly you're out those 60+ points you spent in week 1 and scrambling.
But you know what you're doing homie, just my .02

wow bro still can't believe that La Tech win, loved the video. What an absolute prayer you threw up in double coverage, then to not only come down with it but break both tackles and go all the way, what a win. Time to bounce back after that tough loss to FIU, those unis doe.

This ain't strategy, loc, we're just poor lmao
i was hoping to land a few early commits and be able to gradually add more instead of spreading my points thin with a big board

Players to Watch
HB Kadarius Calloway (R-Sr) | 6′0″, 220 lbs | 82 OVR, 85 SPD, 90 ACC, 81 COD, 85 BTK, 86 TRK
‣ The California transfer flashed speed and balance at Old Dominion and Baylor, finishing with over 600 rushing yards in 2023. As the lead back for the Aggies, Calloway has found success with 522 yards on the ground and has broken 23 tackles. Calloway's physical running style should put some stress on an Owls defense that has struggled with tackling.
WR A.J. Williams (R-So) | 6'4"", 195lbs | 72 OVR, 87 SPD, 90 ACC, 79 CTH
‣ New Mexico has two speedy receivers in T.J. Pride and P.J. Johnson III that get plenty of attention on the outside with their ability to take the top off a defense but the real chain mover of the offense is the lengthy Williams. He is third in the conference with fifty six receptions and while he might not be as likely as Pride or Johnson to explode for a touchdown, Williams is the type of receiver that is annoying, consistent threat for opposing defenses, especially on third down.
EDGE Gabe Peterson (R-Sr) | 6'2", 255lbs | 78 OVR, 81 ACC, 83 STR, 83 PMV, 75 BSH
‣ Returning to NMSU after a productive stint at Utah State, Peterson is the anchor of New Mexico State’s defensive line and a veteran pass‑rusher. Due to this, a lot of focus has been placed on Peterson who has just one sack on the season but should generate some rush on a Kennesaw State offense that should give him plenty of opportunities to get after the quarterback.
