Top ten quarterback Alec Baer set to visit Miami as Crystal Balls flood in for the Hurricanes
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports Miami Insider
Four-star quarterback Alec Baer will be visiting the University of Miami this weekend as one of the nation's top signal callers is nearing a decision.
Baer, a talented signal caller from Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine Military School, is down to Miami and West Virginia with the six-foot-five quarterback set to the visit the Mountaineers next week before making a decision prior to the start of the playoffs. The Hurricanes are the Crystal Ball leaders with many expecting Baer to potentially announce his commitment this weekend should both parties come to an agreement.
It's a pivotal weekend for both Miami and Baer's camp as both sides will be equally assessing each other. While Baer is a consensus top-ten quarterback in the class, ranked as the seventh best quarterback according to the the 247 Sports Composite Ranking, there are some off the field concerns surrounding Baer which is why schools such as Georgia, Auburn, Clemson, Tennessee, Alabama LSU and Texas have all reportedly pulled their offers from Baer following his expulsion as a high school junior.
Details surrounding the incident or incidents that led to Baer's expulsion haven't been made clear but since his enrollment at Benedictine Military School, Baer has been a 'model teammate' according to the Cadets coaching staff. It's Baer incident free tenure at Benedictine that led Miami's recruiting department to kick the fires on Baer, who completed 171 of 263 passes (65%) for 2,576 yards and 24 touchdowns with three interceptions while turning 139 carries into 453 yards and seven scores.
If Miami's coaching staff signs off on Baer this weekend after this pivotal visit, he very well could be Miami's next commitment.

Vanderbilt keeps it competitive but can't finish the job against No. 1 Miami
The Miami Hurricanes returned atop the College Football Playoffs Rankings this past Tuesday, reclaiming the throne following their win over No. 11 Clemson and despite Vanderbilt's best efforts, they'll likely remain there with their tenth win of the season, beating the Commodores 38-20.
Aided by an interception and a miraculous 88-yard reception on a pass that was deflected twice by the defense, Vandy led 14-7 heading into the second quarter but it was all Miami after that, who scored two unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter to retake the lead and then held the Vanderbilt offense to just six second half points on two field goals.
The Hurricanes began pulling away with Aidan Teague's 70-yard touchdown run, who finished the game with 156 yards rushing and a touchdown. He was one of four Miami Hurricanes to finish with over forty rushing yards, including quarterback Bernie Flowers who threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns.
