Seven Miami Hurricanes underclassmen declare for the draft as Javier Torrez, Tyler Rattay jump in the portal
Carlos Navarro -- The Athletic Staff Writer
The Miami Hurricanes will likely be big time players in the transfer portal market following seven underclassmen declaring for the draft early, including quarterback Bernie Flowers, and two transfer portal entries in running back Javier Torrez and receiver Tyler Rattay.
The Hurricanes are also losing top receivers Max North and Etinosa Ha, along with top edge rusher Nick Kahn to the draft as well as most of their secondary with Jason Wall, Thomas Manning and Adrian McCune all entering the draft. This is in addition to their senior class which includes leading rusher Aidan Teague, left tackle Darrius Keyes, cornerback Manuel Arcuri and linebacker Alec Lawrence.
It's an impressive group of talent leaving the program that helped them win two national championships in the last three seasons as well as three consecutive conference championships across the ACC and SEC.
Tyler Rattay was one of three five-star receivers that Miami signed in the same class with Max North and Etinosa Ha but unlike the other two, Rattay never managed to break through and crack the rotation at receiver. Torrez was part of a deep Miami running back group but with Kaseem Dalton expected to return, along with Broderick Booker and Sammy Ramey, the rising junior is likely seeking to be the clear top running back elsewhere.

Analyzing Miami's path to rebuilding their roster ahead of the transfer portal
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports Miami Insider
The Miami Hurricanes will be returning just three starters on offense from last year's and will need to rebuild their entire secondary outside of safety Bobby Haslam, who is likely to be the first safety drafted in a year's time. The roster turnovers from early departures via the draft as well as graduation coupled with new offensive and defensive coordinators makes this a pivotal offseason for Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes as they end their season with a loss for the first time in three years.
While Miami's cupboard of young talent is far from bare, the Hurricanes still need both quality depth and potential impact players that can help alleviate the loss of talent and that's where the transfer portal comes in. As the portal opens, the Hurricanes should be buyers at these positions:
Running back
Current players: Kaseem Dalton (redshirt junior), Broderick Booker (sophomore), Sammy Ramey (sophomore), Tony Slye (4-star true freshman)
Departures: Aidan Teague (207 carries, 1239 yards, 13 touchdowns, 36 receptions, 393 yards, 2 touchdowns, 460 snaps), Javier Torrez (54 carries, 308 yards, 5 touchdowns, 16 receptions, 174 yards, touchdown, 29 kick returns, 536 yards, 35 punt returns, 310 yards, touchdown, 322 snaps)
Potential transfer portal targets:

The Hurricanes not only need to replace their leading rusher in Teague but they also need some solid depth with Javier Torrez entering the transfer portal and rumored to be already committed to the Florida State Seminoles.
While Broderick Booker will naturally elevate into that RB1 slot and Kaseem Dalton should be back as RB2 with Sammy Ramey bringing some of that long speed, the Hurricanes still need some quality depth to eat up the snaps that Torrez ate last year. This makes thing an intriguing position where the Hurricanes probably won't be able to nor need to attract a top running back but a solid player with good traits that is willing to be third or fourth in the pecking order.
Brian Valdez is an intriguing option out of Coastal Carolina as he spelled Coastal Carolina's top running back in Eli Treggs and was efficient as a short-yardage option with five touchdowns and caught nineteen passes, another aspect of Torrez' game that the Hurricanes need to replace.
Wide receiver
Current players: Marcus Cavazos (redshirt freshman), Ezekiel Hooey (5-star true freshman), Silas Soroh (4-star true freshman), Rasheem Pelshak (3-star true freshman)
Departures: Max North (70 receptions, 1545 yards, 17 touchdowns, 823 snaps), Etinosa Ha (44 receptions, 581 yards, 4 touchdowns, 768 snaps), David Tompkins (21 receptions, 150 yards, 2 touchdowns, 545 snaps), Duke Cundiff (44 receptions, 479 yards, 4 touchdowns, 810 snaps), Tim Rattay (9 receptions, 102 yards, 296 snaps), Troy McMahan (4 receptions, 27 yards, touchdown, 64 snaps)
Potential transfer portal targets:

That's right, Miami is returning just one player from last year's roster and that's redshirt freshman Marcus Cavazos. Ezekiel Hooey figures to slide into a starting role right away but the portal is loaded with talent that the Hurricanes can go snag and play right away.
The top option will be Cam Colombo, the All-American who might have been the best receiver in college football last season. While Colombo was productive, his physical skills don't blow you away as a five-foot-ten receiver that does a lot of his work after the catch, grinding away tough yards. He'd also be making the jump from the Big XII into the SEC which is where Florida's Eric Lucien comes in as he's a proven player that has been productive against SEC competition for the past three seasons. Against Miami, he caught three passes for 36 yards but the week before, he went for 178 yards and a touchdown against the Vols.
The Gators have a trio of receiver in the portal so the Hurricanes will likely at least sniff around them at the least, if not snag one or two. Other more lowkey options are Baylor's Mitch Davey and California Antoine Abiamiri who aren't at the top of the transfer portal market but could see a jump in Miami's offense, similar to what we saw with Aidan Teague when he transferred in from Michigan and was more productive at Miami.
Cornerback
Current players: Siaki Tu'ikolovatu (sophomore), Tremaine Thompson (redshirt freshman), Roy Talbott (3-star true freshman), Warren Sillas (3-star true freshman), Bo Harvin (3-star true freshman), Damion Folsom (3-star true freshman), Russell Kamara (3-star true freshman)
Departures: Jason Wall (61 tackles, 2 interceptions, 3 pass breakups, 742 snaps), Adrian McCune (90 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, interception, 11 pass breakups, 757 snaps), Thomas Manning (36 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 5 pass breakups, 537 snaps), Manuel Arcuri (65 tackles, 6 interceptions, 4 pass breakups, 779 snaps)
Potential transfer portal targets:

If receiver is in a precarious position with just one returning player, corner is even worse as they don't have an Ezekiel Hooey coming in that's expected to start right away. Instead, the Hurricanes are bringing in a lot of projects at the position in five three-star prospects at corner as they try to rebuild the room. They should be aggressive in the transfer portal market where the top corner might be Army's Alex Brower and Florida State's Spencer Kaddu.
The Hurricanes might sign multiple corners from the portal and that's where players like Rashad Rabe or Major Gibbs would come into play as the Hurricanes also need depth on top of starter quality players.

Receiver room got fuggin' punished. Going to be interesting how you bounce back with such key offensive pieces moving on all at once.
