Earl Nienhuis has six turnovers in uneven performance from Stanford in 59-21 rout
Stanford had nearly six hundred yards of total offense, rushed for over 201 yards and thew for nearly 400 yards and yet, head coach Bubba Mack's press conference after the game had the tenor of a coach on the losing side of things as Stanford routed UNLV 59-21.
"I just don't think we showed up," Mack said of his team's struggles in the first half against UNLV, "As a coaching staff, we did a terrible job of getting the guys ready and that's on me. I think our top guys didn't play at a high level and that's on them. We all had a collective hand in this performance so we'll learn from this experience and grow from it."
Stanford quarterback Niehuis was intercepted on his second pass of the night and threw three first half interceptions, including a pick six, and ended the game with four interceptions and two loss fumbles. He also threw for 384 yards and four touchdowns, including a touchdown with thirteen seconds left in the game.
"We wanted to end the game on a high note," Mack said of the decision to call timeouts and try to get into the endzone with the game in hand in the final minute, "Our guys have been through a tough few weeks, pretty much a month of the first season so while tonight is dissapointing, we still wanted to get in the endzone, build some confidence heading into next week."
