Patriots fall short against Chargers as run defense goes bust once more
With injuries to defensive tackle Christian Barmore and linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley, as well as the trade of nose tackle Davon Godchaux has left New England's rushing defense susceptible to explosive plays.

They fell victim once again on Sunday night, allowing J.K. Dobbins to explode for a 71-yard touchdown which got the Chargers back into the game for Cameron Dicker's game winning 28-yard field goal in the Chargers 16-15 win over the Patriots.

After the field goal, Drake Maye and the Patriots offense had a chance to try to retake the lead but failed to convert on fourth down on a pass to Hunter Henry that was stopped a yard short of the first down.

Maye had a clean performance, not turning the ball over once and threw for 222 yards on 77 percent completion, outplaying Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert who completed just 52 percent of his passes for 105 yards and two interceptions.

It was a tough day for another Pats rookie as left tackle Caedan Wallace had two holding penalties that negated passing touchdowns.

Bills escape near disaster collapse against Patriots
The New England Patriots had nothing to play for, matched up against a better team and were down 21-0 with their rookie quarterback having already thrown two interceptions.

The Patriots could have packed it up and ended their year with a whimper but Drake Maye would rally back, throwing three touchdowns as the Bills would need a twenty-seven yard run by James Cook on third and seven in the final two minutes of the game to clinch the 31-24 win over the Patriots in the regular season finale.

Maye bounced back right after Josh Allen's 41-yard touchdown which came as a result of his second interception of the day, both in the second quarter. He completed passes of 26 and 27 yards to Ja'Lynn Polk before finding Hunter Henry in the endzone. After a Bills punt and only 42 seconds to go 80 yards, Maye did just that, culminating with a 40-yard touchdown to Henry as time expired in the first half.

Henry caught two touchdown passes with seven receptions for 108 yards as he finished the season as the Patriots leading receiver.

Maye's amazing play would continue in the second half, connecting with Polk for an eighteen yard completion on third down and then ripping off a 24-yard run. He escaped a sack on third and goal to get the ball down to the one-yard line where he'd scramble out of the pocket and find Polk who made a leaping grab for the touchdown. Polk finished the day with nine receptions for 112 yards and the touchdown.

With the lead down to three, Allen and the Bills would respond as Curtis Samuel beat Christian Gonzalez for the touchdown to make it a ten point game. The Patriots would eventually get the ball in scoring territory but opted to kick a field goal to make it a three point game with two minutes left. The defense was unable to get a stop as Cook 's 27-yard run burned their timeouts.
