It's what the CPU kept generating for me once I switched UMass from Independent into MAC. It's why our schedule has like, a 6-game road trip :rg3:

Coach James Xavier's Offensive Gameplan

"Toledo was one of the matchups we had circled on our schedule when it was released. They always bring the action with their defense. They have stumbled out of the gates and are currently suffering from some injury woes. You never want to dance on the downfall of healthy teams, but this is an opportunity for us to stack another brick and get another win. [Emmanuel] McNeil-Warren is a Sunday-type of player, and he patrols the secondary with immense speed. We can't sail passes down the field without precision with #7 down there. We love to run the ball up the gut, and I'm confident that the middle of their defense won't be able to handle it. We run the ball over here."

This was certainly one of the games that we circled as a potential loss at the beginning of the year, but all those injuries have changed things

‣ CFB 2025 Regular Season, Week 7 - Glass Bowl Stadium, Toledo, Ohio
(5-0, 4-0 MAC) UMass Minutemen at Toledo Rockets (2-3, 1-0 MAC)

Hester has career day against Toledo in rainy game, Minutemen continue to roll

UMass remained unbeaten and continued its stunning rise in the MAC with a 35-24 win over Toledo in Week 7, moving to 7-0 in its debut season in the conference. The Minutemen leaned on a career day from running back C.J. Hester, who exploded for 219 rushing yards on 27 carries, including a touchdown that helped set the tone early.

UMass quarterback Ahmad Haston was sharp and efficient, completing all but four of his pass attempts for 197 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding a rushing score of his own. Haston's command of the offense kept the Rockets’ defense on their heels all afternoon.

"He's really coming into his own, and it's been a marvel to witness," commented offensive coordinator James Xaxier, seeing the fruits of his offense finally pay off after a tumultuous yet successful first-year campaign last season.

Toledo came into the game hampered by injuries, most notably the absence of starting quarterback John Alan Richter, which forced redshirt freshman Kalieb Osborne into action. Despite the pressure, Osborne impressed in relief, throwing three touchdown passes and keeping Toledo within striking distance for most of the game. His impressive strike to wide receiver Junior Vandeross III in garbage time raised eyebrows as Vandeross III scampered to the end zone for 58 yards.

But UMass’s defense rose to the challenge, containing the Rockets' rushing attack and making key stops late to preserve the lead. While the Rockets showed resilience, the absence of their starting signal-caller and other key injuries proved too much to overcome against a surging and disciplined UMass squad.

With the victory, UMass improves to 7-0, continuing what has become one of the most remarkable storylines of the college football season. Their rapid ascent in their first year in the MAC is turning heads nationwide, fueled by a physical ground game, smart quarterback play, and a defense that delivers when it counts.
