TREY OWENS
Despite leading the nation in passing yards (4110 yds) and touchdowns (42) well completing 68% of his pass attempts (336/494), Trey Owen's 12 INT's this season and lack of rushing stats have been stat killers in terms of any potential Heisman votes as well as other National Honors. Owens currently ranks #7 on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
Owens however is unfazed and instead is looking ahead. With 3 games left on the regular season schedule as well as a Bowl game and a potential Pac-12 Championship,, Owens is on pace to break Bailey Zappe (5967 yds) Single Season NCAA Record as well as fellow Washington State Cougar Anthony Gordon's (5579 yds) Pac-12 and WSU record.. Owens also will likely break Gordon's (48) touchdown record and could still contend with Zappe's National record of (62).
Moore
DYNAMIC DUO"To be honest, I feel like Trey is doing everything we are asking of him in our offense. People tend to forget the year Anthony broke those records he finished with 17 INT's and had -20 yards rushing for the season."
Despite leading the nation in Passing Yards and Passing Touchdowns the Washington State Cougars are not and should not be considered a "Air Raid" System Offense.. Senior Brevin Doll in just 9 games has already surpassed 1000 yds (1020) with a average of 5.2 yds per carry (195) and has scored 16 TD's. Doll is just 1 touchdown shy of beating Jerome Harrison's 2005 single season touchdown record.
Well Trey Owens is not getting any Heisman votes, WSU still does have 1 player currently in the Top-5. Redshirt Sophomore Clint Powell had a breakout game against UTSA scoring a WSU single game record 6 touchdowns.. Well Powells' 440 yds (5.6 avg) and 7 TD's as the Cougars #2 RB (79 carries) is impressive, NFL scouts are taking notice of what Powell has done in the passing game.. He is currently #2 on the team in receptions (73) logging more catches then All-American Lester Creer for 799 yds (10.9 avg) well scoring 6 touchdowns.. With his currently pace of production he could very well end up with over 2000 yds of total offense this season and likely 20+ touchdowns.
TRIPLE THREAT
Over the past 3 weeks, JR Carter Pabst has actually taken over as the Cougars top target (90 receptions) as teams have focused on Creer, Pabst has been like a "Blue Ribbon Award winner" at the State Fair, becoming the first of the Triple Threat to hit 1000 yds (1132 yds) well scoring 9 touchdowns.
Creer who appears to be a lock for a early entry into the NFL Draft at the end of the season is well on his way to another 1000 yd season logging 70 rec for 889 yds and a team high 13 touchdowns.. Creer already has his name on several single season WSU records, now he is working on Career records as well as Pac-12 records.
When Missouri State transfer Cory Izein signed with WSU it was a insurance policy in away in case 4* Recruits Deon Rugamba and Calvin Wayne.were not ready.. Instead Izein took the reigns as the #3 and has logged 60 rec for 845 yds and 7 TD's leaving Rugamba and Wayne to combine for just 11 receptions as the teams #4 WR.
COUGAR DEFENSE
Well WSU has become a Offensive Juggernaut, the WSU Defense continues to be a mystery.. At times the Cougars Defense plays amazing like holding Boise State (a Top-10 Offense) to just 20 points and Arizona to just 7 points in a (52-7) blowout win in Week 2. but it is also the same defense that gave up 59 points to Stanford and 44 points to Washington.
Right now the Cougars Defense gives up an average of 31.3 PPG (#6 in the Pac-12) , 456.2 yards per game (#11 in the Pac-12) and 325.5 PYPG (#12 in the Pac-12).
On the only positive note WSU currently leads the conference in Sacks (19) Forced Fumbles (4) and tied for 4th in INT (7, Stanford is #1 with 12).
RECRUITING
WSU secured their 2nd Commitment of the 2028 Class signing 4* RB Cedrick Mangum (#265 Overall/#4 WI/#40 RB) from Union Grove Wisconsin. Mangum listed at 5'11 190lbs had scholarship from Pitt as well as Wisconsin and was being scouted by Miami and Oregon (#4/#5).
Well landing Mangum was a huge addition, WSU and Coach Moore got some bad news this week as the Cougars #1 and #7 targets on the Top-25 board signed elsewhere.
5* OG Martin Payne (#30 Overall/#2 WA/#1 OG) was one of the Best players in the state of Washington this year and had WSU #2 on his Top-3 list all season.. He even visited Pullman in Week 7 but at the end of the day playing in the SEC for Alabama was just to big of a draw.
4* C Zamel Philbin (#317 Overall/#24 CA/#10 C) also had WSU in his Top-3 since the beginning of the year, but despite taking a Week 9 visit during the Cougars win over Boise State, Philbin has decided to skip his Week 13 visit to Seattle and just signed with the Huskies this week.
