Huge game from T.Y. Harding has UMass fighting off Ball State comeback, staying undefeated

“If there is one thing we can give them credit for, they just wouldn’t say die,” commented UMass head coach Don Brown after his team just slipped past upset alert, escaping their battle against Ball State University, 28-21 to remain undefeated through 11 weeks of college football.

The Minutemen took to the road as the 15th ranked team in the nation after upsetting NC State earlier in the season to take on one of their few conference games remaining on the schedule. The Cardinals have limped to their 6-2 record, being without their number one running back in T.J., Horton or tight end Tanner Koziol.

Led by quarterback Kadin Semonza, the Cardinals hung tough, matching the Minutemen’s potent offense shot for shot. However, where UMass quarterback Ahmad Haston was able to connect with star wide receiver T.Y. Harding twice for scores, the Cardinals would have to settle for field goals.

Despite a pair of touchdowns from their own receiver, Justin Bowick, the team wouldn’t be able to hold off the Minutemen late in the game thanks to Kezion Dia-Johnson getting in the end zone from four yards to take a lead they wouldn’t surrender.

The Minutemen return home next week to face the Marshall Thundering Herd as they continue their march to an unforeseen berth in the College Football Playoff.
