The Pride of Bismarck - Cade Cannon

By Alex Stumpf | @AlexJStumpf | Sep 2, 2019, 11:20am EDT

Better late than never right? That's what I told myself when I saw that outfielder Cade Cannon was amongst the Pirates September call ups.
Altoona finishes up their season this afternoon in Harrisburg but Cannon won't be with them as he made the nearly four hour drive from Harrisburg to Altoona then onto Pittsburgh last night. The Pirates are off today and start a three game series against Miami tomorrow. Cannon is expected to be available off the bench.
Cannon appeared in 84 games for Altoona, batting .266 with a .333 OPS and a .402 slugging percentage. His 9 triples were good for second best in the Eastern League despite playing in less games than a number of other players.
Cannon led off and started in center field for the majority of the games he played in.
It remains to be seen how Pittsburgh will use him this month but with the Pirates well out of playoff contention and with Starling Marte and Melky Cabrera all but gone after this season I think it would serve the team well to get Cannon on the field with Bryan Reynolds as much as possible as those two will hopefully be two-thirds of the outfield for many years.

The Pride of Bismarck - Cade Cannon

With the game tied 5-5 with one out in the ninth inning Cade Cannon pinch ran for Jake Elmore and Kevin Newman came to the plate.
Newman drove a ball deep into left field and Cannon, with his plus speed, scored easily from second to secure the Pirates 69th (nice) win of the season.
