Projecting Kennesaw State's odds at keeping their top players ahead of Transfer Portal SZN

Win, lose, or draw (which is actually not possible but whatever, you know the saying) against Liberty in the Conference USA Championship Game, Kennesaw State has put together its best FBS season under head coach Bubba Mack, reaching nine wins for the first time in program history after winning just two games two seasons ago.

The success also comes with increased visibility and the visibility means that roster retention, a struggle for every program around the country, is tenfold for a program like Kennesaw State as undoubtedly, other G6 and even some P4 schools will be looking at the Owls roster this offseason. Here are the top players with eligibility remaining on the roster and Kennesaw State's odds on keeping them:

Portal Odds Unclear

In his first season as a starter, Williams has shattered nearly every school record and an argument could already be made, when adjusted for competition, he is the program's greatest quarterback already. With those accomplishments under his belt and likely All-Conference honors in his future, he'll be one of the top G6 arms available in the portal should he jump in there.

The only question is will he after he went from projected third stringer to a surprised starter, all thanks to the trust and belief that head coach Bubba Mack displayed in him. The relationship and bond between the two is apparent based on their sideline interaction but Williams could be looking at a big payday as he does have the physical tools to turn into not only a good college player but even making an NFL roster if he improves on his accuracy.

At six-foot-seven and 313 pounds, Saint-Jean certainly looks the part of a college offensive tackle. He hasn't always played the part so losing Saint-Jean in the portal might not appear on the surface to be a loss but the potential of Saint-Jean, who has two more years of eligibility, is where the big loss would be.

Saint-Jean has the frame and foundation to turn into an NFL draft pick and those don't grow on trees, especially in the C-USA. Saint-Jean might always end up leaving Kennesaw State to better his draft odds but ideally, the Owls would get at least another season of his services after enduring the growing pains of his first year as a starter this past season.

Franklin got off to a slow start after being the lead back in the first few games and then it seemed like he lost the starting job to D.J. Scott and while Scott does lead the team in carries, Franklin has a noticeable edge in yards and has been the more explosive of the two.

He might not always run with the most power behind his pads and he's not the most elusive of runners but his long speed is a much needed change of pace in the running back room. Similar to Williams, he's trending towards an all-conference nod and with that comes buzz in the transfer portal and he could be looking at making an upgrade by going to a higher level conference.

He's transferred once already so why not do it again? The Iowa transfer has certainly caught a lot of passes this season but he hasn't been the explosive outside receiver that the Owls were expecting to get.

While some of this is on him and his drops, with ten on the season, he also hasn't been able to connect with Williams on the deep shots they've taken and in general, this offense is more horizontal than vertical. Parker could jump back into the portal and head back to the P4 level or go to another higher level G6 program after putting at least some good tape this season.

Rogers wasn't a lock to come back last year due to the uncertainty of the quarterback position. While Rogers' gamble has paid off in terms of the Owls actually getting better quarterback play, he hasn't benefited from it as he's seen a decrease in playing time while senior receiver Davis Bryson has replaced him, catching 45 passes for 617 yards after having just seven receptions last year.

With Bryson set to graduate, this does create an opening in the slot that the Owls will either need to address in the transfer portal or rely on an incoming true freshman.

‣ The fifth-year senior hasn't had the greatest season, seeing his numbers take a big dip from last year as he is averaging 70 less passing yards per game and has thrown just thirteen touchdowns after throwing for thirty one last year.

In the first matchup of the season, Vasko was held to just 137 yards and is certainly looking for a better performance and perhaps sneaking into the college football playoffs. As it currently stands, No. 23 Tulsa would be the G6 automatic qualifier and they play Tulane this week in the championship game. The voters would be deciding between the winner of that game and potentially Liberty, if they win this week, and putting together an impressive performance against another nine-win team in KSU could be what gets Liberty into the playoffs after missing out last year due to the loss in the finale to KSU.

‣ Coleman had a breakout year for the Flames, rushing for over 1,000-yards with twenty touchdowns on the season, He rushed for 95 yards in the first matchup, sandwiched between three other performances where he rushed for at least 140 yards.

He's back for seconds and could be due for another big day as the Owls defense has struggled in recent weeks against lesser opponents.

‣ A lot of the focus is on defensive tackles Eli Hall (14 TFL, 8.5 sacks) and Bryce Dixon (14 TFL, 4 sacks) and deservingly so but it was Desmond Umeozulu who was freed up to make plays for the Flames in their first game with three tackles for loss and two sacks.

The South Carolina transfer has just one sack since, coming against Florida International three weeks ago, but could be in line for another big time performance as the Owls will need to focus a lot of their attention and bodies up front on the two defensive tackles.
