So damn frustrating. This secondary soft as hell. As soon as they get second level, we're cooked. If it wasn't for our defensive line :obama:

Virginia loses "class-shaping" offensive tackle, but pick up flurry of new recruits

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- First it was cornerback Mike McCann opting for Syracuse, then it was defensive end Britton Mauldin ignoring his hometown and instead going to Maryland. Now, the prized jewel the Virginia Cavaliers thought was in the palm of their hands, four-star offensive tackle Cornell Davis has verbally committed to South Carolina after being a crystal ball prediction to Virginia for the majority of the season.

Shortly after the Cavaliers managed to hold off the California Golden Bears to rattle off their fifth straight victory, Davis took to Instagram with a graphic made to announce his commitment to the Gamecocks. Standing at 6-foot-5 and 300 lbs, Davis was the highest ranked prospect the Cavaliers targeted and was on campus during their 45-7 beatdown against Utah State. Instead, the Cavaliers will have to back to the drawing board.

It wasn't all tragedy, as the Cavaliers picked up a flurry of commitments in the last few weeks, including 6-foot-5 wide receiver Mohammad Cherry out of High Point, North Carolina. The three-star receiver with incredible size brings his immense catch radius to a team in desperate need of some size on the outside. Currently, junior wide receiver Suderian Harrison is their X-receiver at a minute 5-foot-9. More of a burner than a 50-50 ball specialist.

Other notable commitments include three-star offensive tackle John Lokombo out of North Carolina and three-star pass rusher Pat Burks out of Louisiana.

Coach James Xavier's Gameplan

"This is a season-deciding game. We've been faced with these optics before - a legendary coach heading a team we have no business hanging with. Guess what happened that time? They have one hell of a passing game; Jordan Shipp is one of the most impressive receivers I've seen in a while. Our secondary is going to be tested. Lord knows I've been hard on them, and they haven't always answered the call. They'll answer it today. They have to. Everyone knows Belichick loves his defense, and showing us multiple looks. Their linebackers are amazing playing west-east. Our former guy Kam Robinson is here and we know he's going to want to shut us down. We need to play a clean, focused game. Take our opportunities and go for broke."

Colandrea plays hero, Myles Brown calls game as Cavaliers knock down UNC

Virginia has high hopes with their award-winning head coach James Xavier at the helm after finishing a dismal 6-6 last year. Coach Xavier walked into Charlottesville and told his staff, told his players that the College Football Playoff was the goal. "Win the ACC, create our own destiny". They dropped embarrassing losses to Florida State and Syracuse which made those hopes look like pipe dreams.

They haven't lost since.

Virginia has now pulled off their second upset of the season, defeating #10 North Carolina 26-21, middle linebacker Myles Brown sealing the game with an interception on the Tar Heels last ditch attempt of avoiding the upset. Quarterback Anthony Colandrea threw three touchdowns, including an amazing effort from wide receiver Jaden Gibson to put up what would become the game-winning touchdown. Running back Noah Vaughn would be stopped on the two-point conversion attempt earlier, relying on the defense to get them a stop.

Edge rusher Jewett Hayes terrorized Tar Heels quarterback Conner Harrell all game long with his constant pressure as he continues to made a bid for awards and an All-American slot at the end of the season.

"We couldn't be prouder of these boys," said Coach Xavier, exuberant after the victory. "This season is fully in our own hands and we control our own destiny. It's us against the world."

Virginia will look to do it all over again when they take on #9 SMU on the road.
