Miami junior defensive end Rueben Bain Jr. foregoes senior season after record breaking campaign
Carlos Navarro -- The Athletic Staff Writer

As expected, Miami's all world defensive end Rueben Bain Jr. is entering the NFL Draft.

Bain, who led the country this past year with 23.5 sacks, set an ACC and school record and is widely considered to be in contention to be a top-five pick in this year's draft. A three-year starter for the Hurricanes, Bain has been a standout player since his arrival in Coral Gables, leading the team in sacks in each of his three seasons with the Hurricanes.

Miami does get offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa for another year as the junior intends to return for his senior year despite being a potential first round pick. Maugioa, who was in the same recruiting class as Bain, had a very good junior year and shined in his show case matchup against Penn State's Abdul Carter and was a bright spot in the loss to Texas A&M. Similar to Jalen Rivers last year, Maugioa is returning for his senior year as he looks to win a national championship at Miami.

How aggressive will Miami be in the transfer portal with a roster full of Mario Cristobal's guys?
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports Miami Insider

The University of Miami have been extremely active in the past three transfer portals under head coach Mario Cristobal as he tried to overturn the roster from what it was under previous head coach Manny Diaz into the dominant, physical team that Hurricanes fans have seen make the playoffs in the past two seasons.

The Hurricanes swung and miss in the portal last year in quarterback Nicholas Vattiato who was eventually benched for Emory Williams but did find success with additions like Jeremiah Smith, Mario Williams and nearly their entire secondary in Devin Moore, Dontae Balfour, and Kamari Wilson among others.

At some point, the talented high school classes that Cristobal has landed over the years will need to be given opportunities with notable logjams at receiver and cornerback that should be clearing up. There are areas on the team, however, that Miami could stand to upgrade overnight with portal additions, particularly on the interior of the offensive line.

Miami has started Ryan Rodriguez at center the past two years who had a decent PFF grade of 64.9 last year but struggled against the CFP Semifinals against a bigger Texas A&M defense. Georgia State's Will Larkins might be an upgrade and with some eligibility left, he might be worth a look at. The Hurricanes also need to replace left tackle Jalen Rivers and while Samson Okunlola has long been viewed internally as the left tackle of the future, Samson has started several games the past two seasons on the interior and if they decide to keep him there with the loss of three-year starter
Anez Cooper, someone like Tennessee's Brian Grant could compete for that left tackle spot right away.

It's unclear how involved Miami is expected to be in the recruitment of Dylan Stewart, the former five-star defensive end out of South Carolina. The Hurricanes were there until the end when he came out of high school, ultimately picking South Carolina. He does possess a ton of talent with years of eligibility left but edge rusher is another position where Miami already has a ton of talent at.

Emory Williams ready to fight and grind for his starting spot once more
Manny Ledo -- The Miami Herald Sports Columnist

Miami quarterback Emory Williams is no stranger to competition. When the three-star quarterback signed with the Hurricanes out of high school, it was with the understand that Miami might sign another quarterback in the same class. When he arrived at Miami, he was behind a more physically talented backup in Jacurri Brown and starter Tyler Van Dyke that had two more years of eligibility left.

Williams stayed the course, starting over both Brown and Van Dyke and even when Miami went out and signed a transfer quarterback in Nicholas Vattiato last spring, Williams never buckled. Don't expect him to do so now, even with five-star quarterback Keke Hagg on campus and practicing with the team since last month.

An early enrollee, Hagg got to be part of Miami's preparation for their playoff game against Texas A&M. Hagg got front row seats to see Williams struggle against the Aggies defense on Miami's running game was kept in check and their screens were not effective. Williams has been described as a game manager while Hagg possesses the physical traits that might make him a game changer but Williams still believes in himself and believes that the coaching staff believes in him.

"I've been blessed to play behind a lot of older guys that were great to me," said Williams when asked about the incoming five-star, "I plan to be the same way with [Hagg] and just pour into him all the knowledge I have. We're a family, we all want to see each other win but I do believe that I'm the starting quarterback of this team, we've won games together and this team believes in me, the coaches do and I'll just keep doing what I'm doing, getting better every day."

There were rumors of sophomore quarterback Titus Willis entering the transfer portal but with him staying put, Miami has four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster currently with no expectations of them adding a fifth from the portal. Williams led the team to a College Football Playoff victory but was outplayed by Judd Anderson in fall camp and physically, both Willis and Hagg are more impressive athletes than Williams.

All four quarterbacks will be without top receiver Jeremiah Smith who is still recovering from his torn pectoral.

Miami rebuilds offensive line with transfer signings of Brian Grant, Will Larkins
Carlos Navarro -- The Athletic Staff Writer

Two of college football's top available offensive linemen are returning to the Sunshine State with Tennessee offensive tackle Brian Grant and Georgia State center Will Larkins committing to the University of Miami.

Grant, who is a junior, was a starter for the Vols last season at left tackle and will look to replace Jalen Rivers who is headed to the NFL. At six-foot-seven and 332 pounds, the former multi-sport standout from Fort Walton Beach in the Florida panhandle has developed into one of the SEC's top offensive tackles over the past two seasons. A strong, towering offensive tackle, Grant has played both right and left tackle for the Vols and offers some positional flexibility for Miami should they choose to play Francis Mauigoa at left tackle for his senior season.

Originally at Indiana, Larkins transferred to Georgia State after redshirting in 2023 with the Hoosiers. He started at center this past year for the Jaguars and will be reuniting with former Chaminade-Madonna teammates Jeremiah Smith, Joshisa Trader and Zaquan Patterson. Larkins will likely competed for that starting center role with Ryan Rodriguez whose been Miami's starter at the position for the past two seasons.
