Huskies sign P Justin Vogel following string of freak shoulder injuries in win over Giants

Three different Toronto Huskies players, all starters, tore their shoulders against the New York Giants: star running back Angelo McBride, guard Drew Mackey and punter -- yes, punter -- Tress Way.

The team moved linebacker Christian Jackson to the practice squad, opening up a roster spot for punter Justin Vogel. Rookie kicker Stanley James punted six times against New York, pinning two of them inside the 30-yard line and netted an average of 36.5 yards per punt.

All three player are expected to miss a month of action with the injury.

Huskies, Lawrence agree on extension to keep former MVP in Toronto for six more years

The Toronto Huskies and quarterback Trevor Lawrence have agreed to a six year, $216 million extension.

The deal makes Lawrence, who was the NFL MVP two seasons ago, one of the league's highest paid players. Cincinnati's Joe Burrow, who signed a six year, $209 million deal last season, was used as a template for the deal. Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson remain at the top followed by Deshaun Watson. Mahomes had signed a seven year, $304 million extension back in 2020 with Jackson coming in at $290 million and Watson at $270 million, all seven year deals.

In just 43 games, the former number one overall pick has 100 touchdowns to just 37 interceptions and has thrown for 12,400 yards, averaging an NFL best 288.4 yards per game and 9.0 yards per attempt. Patrick Mahomes is the only one within striking distance of Lawrence with 268.4 yards per game and 8.9 yards per attempt.

With Lawrence and pass rusher Chase Young now locked up, Toronto's focus now shifts toward wide receiver Rondale Moore and outside linebacker Nolan Garrison. The team has around $78 million in cap space to re-sign both as well as potentially defensive end Matthew Ioannidis and more unlikely, wide receiver Chris Godwin.

The number for Moore is expected to be in the $40 million range while Garrison is expected to be around $30 million. Garrison recorded 9.5 sacks last season in his first season as a starter and so far on the year has six sacks.

The team is reportedly shopping around Godwin with the asking price starting at a first-round pick for the receiver. Ioannidis could likely be on the move as well with many experts picking the former pro-bowler to receive one last big pay day as he turned 30 this year.

In other transaction news, the team placed wide receiver Aaron Fuller on IR after he fractured his foot against Cincinnati. The team signed free agent receiver Mike Harley.
