Joe Milton keeps it competitive against Niners but turnovers too much to overcome
The San Francisco 49ers had to sweat it out for a few minutes in the fourth quarter when the New England Patriots, with quarterback Joe Milton III making his first career start, scored consecutive touchdowns in the third quarter aided by a muffed kickoff return to make it a one possession game.

George Kittle would respond with his third touchdown of the game, exploding for 52 yards as the Niners held onto a 41-27 win over the injured Patriots on Sunday.

Milton completed 19 of 31 passes for 228 yards in place of the injured Drake Maye but had an early pick six that dug New England into a 28-3 hole. Both Rhamondre Stevenson and Derrick Henry would fumble the ball as well which proved to too much for the injury riddled Patriots to overcome. The Patriots were without four key starters in Maye, receiver Barion Brown, defensive lineman Christian Barmore and cornerback Marcus Jones. Stevenson would leave the game in the second half with an injury as well.

Bills pull away late from New England to avoid upset against Maye-less Patriots
The New England Patriots stood toe to toe with the Buffalo Bills through the first half in their second game without starting quarterback Drake Maye but Josh Allen's big play ability and the Patriots' own miscues would prove to be too much to overcome in the 36-14 loss to the Bills on Sunday.

A busted coverage led to a ninety yard touchdown pass to Keon Coleman early in the third quarter with Jabril Peppers, who appeared to be at fault, not playing another defensive snap for the rest of the game. The Patriots would respond with a 48-yard completion to Christian Watson from Joe Milton III, who found Watson for a touchdown four plays later.

It was all Buffalo after that with Coleman reeling in another big play with a 72-yard catch on a rub route to set up Allen's 11-yard touchdown to make it 23-14 heading into the fourth quarter. A botched snap that went over Milton's head would extend Buffalo's lead as Greg Rousseau recovered the ball in the endzone for the touchdown.

When New England did find success with a long touchdown pass to Watson, it would be negated by a holding penalty. The Patriots were called for ten penalties, including six on the offensive line who lost a key component in Michael Onwenu early in the second half.
