Potential first round pick and Miami Hurricanes defensive tackle Justin Scott to miss rest of the season Carlos Navarro -- The Athletic Staff Writer
The University of Miami will be without defensive tackle Justin Scott who will miss the remainder of the Hurricanes' season after having surgery to repair a torn pectoral suffered against Wake Forest.
Scott, who will be draft eligible in the spring, might have played his last snap as a Miami Hurricane. Last season, Scott recorded twenty three tackles for loss and an impressive 8.5 sacks from the defensive tackle position, living up to his five-star billing.
He entered this season as one of college football's elite interior defensive linemen and has played as such with eight tackles for loss and five sacks, string together six consecutive games with at least a half sack.
Miami does have plenty of depth at the position in Artavius Jones (9 TFL, 2.5 sacks), Josh Horton (3 TFL), Kevin Yeboah (2 TFL) and Jordan Phillips (2 TFL).

Fans in Miami are celebrating after Miami defeats rival Florida State
Miami tried their best to lose. Florida State tried harder.
Despite several back breaking turnovers, ill-fated coaching decisions and questionable play calling, Miami found a way to beat their rivals 30-24 on Saturday, clinching the game with a 3rd and nineteen conversion on a screen pass to Mark Fletcher that went for 22 yards.
It was all Miami after an early Florida State touchdown with the Hurricanes overcoming an interception second and goal, coming off a penalty that negated a touchdown, to go up 14-7 with less than a minute left to go and set to get the ball in the second half.
Instead, Florida State scored scored in three plays as Landen Thomas was left wide open for the 63-yard touchdown pass. With the ball on their 16-yard line and just 31 seconds left, Miami still tried to run their offense instead of kneeing the ball, resulting in quarterback Emory Williams' second turnover of the night, this time on a strip sack that gave Florida State the chance to score twice in the final minute of the game, which they did as Luke Kromenhoek found Miami native Lawayne McCoy in the endzone to take the lead.
Williams would respond with a nine play drive, using a heavy dose of RPOs to get the ball to the one-yard line where Maurice Rugamba would punch it in. Williams would organized another lengthy drive, this time totaling twelve plays but on fourth and one from the Florida State two-yard line, with quarterback Keke Hagg in the game, the handoff to Fletcher would be stopped short.
Miami head coach Mario Cristobal defended the decision after the game as a field goal would have given Miami the lead.
"We had a chance to go up a touchdown," Cristobal said, "If we didn't get it, we trusted our defense to give us the ball back."
The defense did better than that, tackling Kam Davis in the endzone to score on a safety. Florida State would get the ball back with eleven minutes left and get into scoring position on the Miami 45-yard line after a 22-yard completion to Jalen Brown and an eighteen yard run by Kam Davis but on third and eleven, former Florida State commit Armando Blount would strip Kromenhoek of the football and return it for a touchdown, extending Miami's lead to nine points.
The Seminoles didn't go down without a fight, scoring a field goal on their next drive while saving all three timeouts and kicking the ball back to Miami with 3:33 remaining. The Hurricanes would be faced with a third and nineteen following a holding penalty but the completion to Fletcher would seal the victory. That fumble recovery ran back for a TD by Armondo Blount was a huge momentum swing for you. Good win, gotta clean some things up going forward for sure though.
