Tavien St. Clair has a big fan in new head coach Bubba Mack

As soon as the ink was dry and everything was official, Stanford head coach Bubba Mack got in contact with quarterback Tavien St. Clair. He was a top priority for Mack, keeping the former five-star recruit in Palo Alto would be his first recruiting win.
For St. Clair, who had transferred from Ohio State the season prior, he had already decided to stay at Stanford following a conversation with previous head coach Jim Mora, who Mack both played for in the NFL and coached with at UCLA and UConn.
"[Mora] pretty much told me that [Mack] is as good as they get," St. Clair said at Stanford's Media Day on Wednesday, "You hear the guys [at Kennesaw State] talk about him and they all loved playing for him so I'm really looking forward to playing with him and it's been a fun summer."
Mack wasted no time naming St. Clair the starting quarterback upon arrival and spent the spring and summer building St. Clair's confidence back up after the first-year starter dealt with turnover issues last season.
"I think he's an NFL player for sure," Mack said back in April, "It's up to us as a coaching staff to turn him into a first round pick because the talent is there, no doubt."
Stanford released their first official depth chart of the season on Wednesday during Media Day as well as the team captains with St. Clair and starting center J.J. Sauer being the offensive captains and defensive end Adam Shovlin and cornerback Cameron Keys being defensive captains.
