Ward's Big Play Ability Shines Through in Titans Comeback Win Over Falcons
Edefuan Ulofoshio's 90-yard fumble return was the sixth touchdown play of over thirty yards and the fourth over sixty as the Atlanta Falcons seemed destined to pull out the victory, completing the 21-7 comeback win over the Tennessee Titans.
Cam Ward, however, had another big play in him.
Ward connected with Justin Jefferson for the duo's third touchdown of the night on a 89-yard bomb with two minutes left in the game and the Titans defense was able to keep the Falcons out of the endzone in the closing moments to beat the Falcons 42-38 on Sunday afternoon.
The Titans had taken the lead on a 69-yard (nice) touchdown from Ward to Xavier Restrepo with which would have been the highlight of the day in any other game. The Titans defense then forced a three-and-out, granting the Titans' offense a chance to seal the win with a touchdown or at the very least, make it a seven point game and eat clock.
They did the latter but not the former, going on an eleven play drive that had three third down conversions but with the ball on the Falcons' 4-yard line, Ward kept it on an option play and was stripped of the ball, his second turnover the day.
After a Tennessee three-and-out, it was the Falcons turn to potentially ice the game and seemed to be on their way to doing so after a 18-yard completion from Michael Penix Jr. to Drake London to get the ball near midfield but after back to back incompletions from Penix, Ward and the Titans got the ball with two minutes left.
The four Jefferson touchdowns set a franchise record for most in a game.
Following the Jefferson touchdown, Atlanta still had a chance to win the game with completions of thirteen, eight and six yards to Darnell Mooney, Eric Rivers and Kyle Pitts along with scrambles of nine, fourteen, four and ten from Penix to get the ball to the Titans 10-yard line with twenty nine seconds left following a spike on first and goal.
Penix's next two passes would fall incomplete, both throw aways, and on fourth and goal, Azeez Ojulari on a delayed rush would get home and sack Penix, icing the game.
