Davis Delivers as No. 10 Hawaiʻi Cruises Past Oregon State, 38–7
Honolulu, HI -- Thrust into the spotlight with
Micah Alejado sidelined,
Dermaricus Davis didn’t just steady the ship — he put on a show.
Making the start in place of the injured Heisman contender, Davis threw four touchdown passes and directed a complete team performance as the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors rolled past the Oregon State Beavers 38–7 on Saturday night in Honolulu.
Hawaii (8–1) never looked rattled despite missing its star quarterback. Instead, the Rainbow Warriors leaned on defense early and let Davis grow into the game, turning a 7–7 first-quarter tie into a runaway victory.
The turning point came late in the opening quarter when Hawaii’s
Nazaiah Caravallo forced a fumble in the end zone that was recovered for a touchdown by
Aiden McComber. The play flipped momentum instantly, and from there, Davis took control.
The sophomore quarterback was efficient and composed, spreading the ball to multiple receivers and capitalizing on short fields. He opened the scoring through the air with a 3-yard touchdown pass to
Damon Brazill early in the second quarter, then followed it up with a 14-yard strike to
Jackson Harris to give Hawaii a 21–7 halftime lead.
Oregon State had opportunities to stay close, but missed chances proved costly. A failed 57-yard field goal, a blocked field goal attempt, and multiple fourth-down stops allowed the Rainbow Warriors to dictate the tempo.
Davis continued to deliver after the break.
Sean McFarland added a 37-yard field goal in the third quarter before Davis found Brazill again — this time from 23 yards out — early in the fourth to stretch the lead to 31–7. A Late touchdown pass to
Antoine Stokes sealed the outcome and turned the final minutes into a celebration.
Hawaii’s defense complemented Davis’ performance, forcing turnovers, pressuring Oregon State quarterbacks into mistakes and intercepting a pass in the end zone midway through the fourth quarter to snuff out any remaining hope.
With Alejado out, questions surrounded Hawaii’s offensive ceiling. On Saturday, Davis provided a clear answer. The Rainbow Warriors didn’t change who they were — they simply kept attacking.
For Hawaii, the win marked its eighth straight and reinforced its status as a national contender. For Davis, it was a statement performance on a big stage, proving the Rainbow Warriors remain dangerous, even without their star.
