Preview
After an impressive season opening win against Kent State, South Carolina will get their "money game" out of the way as they'll take on the Football Championship Subdivision's Towson.
The Tigers will come into the game off the back off losses to Maine and Navy and know they will have their hands full with the confusing offensive scheme that Gamecocks head coach Julian Sneed debuted against the Golden Flashes last week. It'll be a miracle if they can keep receiver Nyck Harbor to the three touchdowns he caught last week.
On the other side of the field, Sneed will be hoping to get his team some more live reps with his offense, avoid any blushes and get to next week and their SEC opener against Mississippi State without any major injuries. If the season opener is anything to go by, they'll do just that.

South Carolina breezes by Towson despite downpour in middle quarters

The Gamecocks imrpoved to 2-0 with a straight-forward victory over Towson despite a torrential downpour in the second and third quarter and the Tigers' unusually stout rush defense.
South Carolina seemed content to sit in second gear and outtalent their Football Championship Subdivision opposition, slowly working the score up to a blowout with a steady dose of both no-huddle and slower tempo offense as head coach Julian Sneed evaluated the way his team would respond to going fast and taking things slow in equal measure.
While the Cocks weren't in any rush, that didn't stop speedster Nyck Harbor from continuing to separate himself from the pack in the early returns as far as receivers go. Harbor finished the game with seven receptions for 128 yards and 3 touchdowns, bringing his season total for yards close to 300 in just two games while reeling in six touchdowns.
Sneed said Harbor's play will be instrumental to South Carolina's chances when games get more serious.
"This offense is built to take advantage of a guy like Nyck. We're moving the defense around constantly and while you're not going to lose a 6'5", 242-pound receiver, if you're in motion when the play starts then it's just a foot race to open space," Sneed said. "And as you've seen so far when Nyck is causing the defense a headache, things open up for Nitro [Tuggle], Brady [Hunt] and lil' [Jayden] Sellers."
Quarterback LaNorris Sellers finished the game with 372 yards and 3 touchdowns, but he wasn't as effective on the ground as he was against Kent State with just 38 yards rushing. However, that was an issue for the team overall.
The Gamecocks finished the game with just over 100 yards rushing due in large part to the 26 tackles for loss the Tigers made.
"We're going to have to talk to our offensive line and fix that. I don't know if it was a footing problem with the rain or if they were genuinely getting overmatched in the trenches. Either way, we have an SEC program next week. We can't give up that kind of penetration or we're going to be in for a shock," Sneed said.
On the other side of the ball, South Carolina pitched a shutout.
Towson attempted to run the ball to keep the score down and give themselves an opportunity to pull off the upset. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the Gamecocks were up for the battle and kept them under 100 yards despite nearly 40 rushing attempts.
The Tigers only attempted 15 passes.
"It was raining for a while there so I get their gameplan to keep the ball on the ground," Sneed said. "You have to tip your cap to our guys on defense for weathering that storm because constantly getting jabbed even for a few yards over the totality of a game is going to wear on you and you might start giving up things in the third and fourth quarters that you weren't in the first and second."
The Gamecocks face Mississippi State next week to open their SEC slate.
