Oregon Rallies Past Hawai‘i In 2027 CFP Quarterfinal
Pasadena, CA -- The 2027 College Football Playoff quarterfinal delivered the kind of drama expected when two 13-win teams collide, and in the end #2 Oregon used a dominant second half to defeat #7 Hawai‘i 49–39, advancing to the CFP semifinals.
Hawai‘i (13–2) looked poised to pull off the upset early, racing out to a 14–0 lead in the opening quarter. Running back Darrelle Dimke (just the 8th player in school history to record a 1,000 yard rushing season) left the game early with an injury and didn't return. True Freshman Glen Wayne stepped in and opened the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run, and quarterback Dermaricus Davis followed with a 32-yard touchdown strike to Jackson Harris just minutes later.
The Ducks (13–1) responded in the second quarter when quarterback Demond Williams Jr. found Nyziah Hunter for a 25-yard touchdown pass. Hawai‘i quickly answered, though, as Sean McFarland drilled a 40-yard field goal and Davis added a 10-yard touchdown run to extend the Rainbow Warriors’ lead to 24–7.
Oregon kept the momentum within reach just before halftime when Williams Jr. launched a deep pass to Dakorien Moore for a 61-yard touchdown with 15 seconds remaining in the half, cutting the deficit to 24–14.
Hawai‘i came out strong again after the break. Davis connected with Harris for their second touchdown of the game, this time a 51-yard strike that pushed the lead to 31–14 early in the third quarter. A 17-point second half lead and all momentum seemed to swing Hawaii's way.
But that’s when the Ducks took control of the playoff showdown.
Running back Greg Burrell ignited the comeback with a 19-yard touchdown run, and Williams Jr. began carving up Hawaii’s secondary. The Oregon quarterback connected with Moore for a 1-yard touchdown pass before Moore added another score on a 2-yard rushing touchdown from the wildcat late in the quarter, capping a three-touchdown surge that gave Oregon its first lead of the night at 35–31.
The Ducks carried that momentum into the fourth quarter. Williams Jr. tossed his fourth touchdown pass of the game, a 3-yard strike to tight end Vander Ploog on 3rd-and-goal, extending Oregon’s advantage.
Hawai‘i refused to fade quietly though. Davis powered in from 16 yards out and the Rainbow Warriors converted the two-point attempt to pull within striking distance at 42–39.
But Oregon delivered the final blow with 1:35 remaining when Burrell broke free for a 20-yard touchdown run, making a defender miss with a juke, then breaking two tackles on his way to seal the 49–39 victory and sending the Ducks to the College Football Playoff semifinals.

We are on the cusp! time to reload in the portal and make another run. Going to be interesting to see if Alejado/Davis stick around after this season.
He's been a thorn in my side this cycle since i've been Oregon. Was very happy when he graduated finally.
