Hurricanes leans on its defense in win over Yellow Jackets
The Miami Hurricanes did what they had to do and took care of business, beating Georgia Tech 19-7 on Senior Night and will now need to wait and see to find out about their postseason hopes.

It was a tough game for the offense who had a touchdown wiped off the board due to penalty on their second drive of the game and Keke Hagg threw an interception on the very next play. Hagg would throw another interception on a play where he and star receiver Jeremiah Smith were on different pages. Hagg would finish the game 26 of 40 for 235 yards and two touchdowns, using his legs to pick up a few key third downs in the second half to help put Georgia Tech away.

It was a big game for Joshisa Trader who broke the game open with his 46-yard touchdown in the third quarter, breaking several tackles on his way to the endzone. Trader was among the Miami seniors to be honored on Senior Night along with Smith, who technically does have another year of eligibility left after missing most of last season.

Miami quarterback Keke Hagg gets vote of confidence from Miami's coaching staff, teammates as Canes' await fate
Carlos Navarro -- The Athletic Staff Writer

The University of Miami's football team is on a bye this week and could potentially go a month before their next football game or be playing for an ACC Championship Game in two weeks.

A lot is in the air as the Hurricanes are fourth in the ACC standings, needing Pittsburgh to lose this week along with some tiebreakers to fall their way to play North Carolina in the ACC Championship Game. The Hurricanes are practicing this week and several members of the program, including head coach Mario Cristobal spoke with the media to describe the tenor in Coral Gables.

"Guys are amped up," Cristobal said, "They're not satisfied with the last few weeks, last couple of games we've played in so we're just waiting for the opportunity to present itself and for us to go out there and play a complete football game that we know we can."

Cristobal spoke highly of quarterback Keke Hagg and running back Isaac Brown for this resiliency in a tumultuous season with both players having key turnovers in Miami's loss to NC State which could keep them out of the ACC Championship Game.

"[Hagg] is going to win a lot of football games for the University of Miami," Cristobal said, "He's our guys, there's no doubt that that. He needs to play better, he knows that, and he will. He's a special player and when it clicks, as far as consistency wise, you're talking about a true alpha that's going to be one of the best players in college football."

Miami star receiver Jeremiah Smith shared similar feelings towards Hagg, taking responsibility for the second interception against Georgia Tech, saying that he adjusted his route too deep.

"We just have to do better around him," said Smith of Hagg, "He's a young player, he's learning, so as the older guys, we have to be on point and help him out. It ain't all just on him."

Playoff Projections
Despite being ranked inside the top twelve, Miami is currently not projected to make the playoffs. North Carolina, ranked 15th in the rankings, would get an automatic bid as the ACC Champion and when you combine that with the automatic G6 bid, the Hurricanes find themselves on the outside looking in.

So what should Miami be rooting for? Pittsburgh beating North Carolina would clear that up as it would take the Tar Heels out of the top twelve where Pittsburgh already is ranked. Ohio or Tulane taking a stumble would also help the Hurricanes as only one G6 team would then make the playoffs.

Of course, the most clear cut scenario is for Pittsburgh to lose this week, Miami to win the complex tiebreaker between them and Clemson and to beat North Carolina in the ACC Championship Game and get a bye week.
